Talk me into (or out of) a 5th gen Camaro
I don't post on here much, but I do lurk quite a bit.
It looks like I am selling my 2005 CTS-V. I had put out some feelers a while back and one of the guys who looked at it decided he wants it. It's sort of a bittersweet moment, I do like the V, but the looming issues with the rear differential and all its other problems just means you have to spend a whole bunch of $$$ to get the car "right" before you can even start adding power.
So, I'm looking at getting into a 2010+ Camaro. Has to be a SS/manual 6 speed. I'm probably looking at used, and would likely do the 1LE track pack upgrade pretty quick.
I have driven a real 1LE, and it was a blast, just can't justify $38k for a brand new one.
So, what do you guys think? Any pitfalls in buying a 2010 - 2012 Camaro SS? Any known issues with the cars from those years?
Thanks!

if I were to get a 5th gen personally, it'd have to be a 2012+ model.
I'd go for a 1SS, manual, no sunroof, cloth seat, non-rs car. That is the lightest configuration SS you can come up with. 1LE would also be a great option as well.
Many folks will regurgitate that magazine testing shows that the 5.0's are faster, but that's not always the case. They're really pretty close and it comes down to how each car is equipped.
As mentioned above, the revised FE4 suspension is a huge deal. Also, it was either in '12 or '13 that they switched paint formulas. The earlier 5th gens ('10 and '11 for sure) had many nightmare stories regarding the paint. Rock chips galore, paint coming off with finger nails, and more.

Launching!
If you're going to drag race it. I'd buy something else.
If you like to stop and turn, favor a little more comfortable ride and you do not need a back seat then you should buy a vette.

..... my two cents.

Im in the same boat sorta. I want a 5th gen cuz its not a stang. Yet I like the 50 stang cuz it runs like a bat outta hell and fun to drive. I test drove both yesterday and I just cant make up my mind.
Im really wanting the 5th gen cuz its a chevy and an ls with a 6060 trans to handle abuse. Im doing everything I can to find an alternative for the rearend to be able to handle drag racing with a stick tire and turbo to run 9.90s and live. Without a 5k cost for damn solid axle.
If I cant find a reasonable rear option ill buy the 5.0 and swap its trans out for a magnum t56.
I just want to bang gears, slide the rear end out side stepping the clutch on the street and haul *** on the strip all with a bit of whistle and woosh to boot.

I love mine...hard to talk someone into or out of a car. If I had it to do all over again I would have bought the ZL1. Cant do a Ford...I am a chevy guy all the way.
I was same as you though...had to be a manual. I love it.

Save up and get the 1LE. Cool wheels, upgraded suspension, different transmission gearing, 3.91's and electric power steering, really good bang for the buck.
I've got my 2010 auto to go from 13.15@106 all stock to 11.90@112 with bolt-ons, just takes the right parts.

It ll depends on what you want to do. If you are complaining about the CTS-V rear end and how much it cost to upgrade it, don't get a 5th gen. Especially a 6 speed. They are fin cruisers but don't expect to beat on it at a track on a regular basis. The autos are a little more forgiving on the drive train but will 4K+ race weight, over 400 rwhp and a direct drive line the carnage becomes pretty epic. I personally broke an out put shaft, drive shaft and axles with 20" NT555r's.
