Default L99 A6 normal driving RPM range ?

I'm thinking of tweaking my A/C cut in/out someday and this is the reason for the really strange question.

There is no reason to run an A/C compressor at 6000 RPMs, maybe not even at 5000 RPMs, I'd rather have HP at those RPM levels, wouldn't you?

When you are driving around normally, not at WOT, what do you think your normal RPM range is at various conditions and speeds? 1000-4000 RPMs?

Take a look and see where your car is shifting into 2nd, 3rd, & 4th.. And what RPMs you are running on the side roads and the hiway.

I'm trying to find the sweet spot for the A/C as well as improve performance and MPG at the same time.

By reducing the A/C under more than normal acceleration we can get a few more HP to the wheels and a little better fuel economy.

I just did a road test. Most of the time, even pushing it a little more, the car stays under 3000 RPMs if you are going over that in an A6 your are starting to push it and if you are stating to push it you'd probably want extra HP and won't be on it for too long so you would notice if the A/C shut off because it will still stay cold until you let off the throttle.

In stock form it shuts off at 5000 rpm and is re-enabled at 6000rpm.

Also is says the throttle position at which its disabled is 200%?

So take that for what you will, but I am definately going to be adjusting mine now. Ill probably go 4000 rpm re-enable 7000 and tps disable at 95%.

I dont understand why it goes to 200% can anyone chime in on that?

I would like to know GMs thinking on the AC settings as well. Disable at 5000 and re-enable at 6000. That says to me once it disables at 5000 it won't turn back on with rpm reduction. On my stock 08 Corvette file the AC disable is 7083 and re-enable 7083. Same throttle position settings as Camaro. These settings make no sense at all to me. I've tried lower settings and never able to get the compressor to turn off.

I wouldn't really worry about your AC drawing power. For one, it should be off when your racing (in which case the compressor pulley freewheels) and even when its engaged it doesn't sap NEARLY as much power as the older compressors did. Not enough to make a difference.

I believe the OP is referring to street use where he decides to punch it and really doesn't want to have to worry about turning the ac off prior. I think we all forget to turn it off on occasion before we go WOT on the street.

I think your best bet is to install and underdrive pulley to add power and protect that compressor by slowing it down at those high rpm. Tuning doesn't seem to do anything. You will pick up about 10 hp with the pulley too along with the benefit of protecting not only the compressor but all your other accessories too not to mention about 1/2-1 mpg fuel improvement.
