Default Looks like everyone's deposits are worthless right now!

I say this because of them shutting down most of Canada's plants at least temporarily. Sad to see, hopefully they will pull a rabbit out of their ***!

Assuming GM doesn't go bankrupt. According to Yahoo GM is 60 billion in debt.

The shut down may be holiday related, Chrysler is shutting down the Challenger line due to holiday reasons to.

Anyone else getting tired of these "the sky is falling" threads? Shutting down or slowing down plants for the holiday season is common practice.

If they declare Chapter 11 they will still be able to produce cars while devising a restructure plan.....

YES! I am sick and tired of people saying that GM is going out of business, Camaro is canceled, blah blah blah. Every day somebody has a doom and gloom question or comment.

they're gpoing under, when they do they reposses all unpaid cars to resell at auction, or make you pay in fulll at time of bankruptcy.

this sounds about as accurate as some of the crap unloaded around the net.

Dumb.... btw they aren't taking deposits either, just orders. If you've paid for yours, they're ripping you off. Trust me my step dad has one on order.

Well none but Cars/trucks in general are priced so damn high b/c of the union's..... Im sorry and no disrepect to the line workers, but they dont need to make $70+/hr to do the same damn thing everyday. Hell, Firefighters dont even make that much and they risk their lives everyday running into burning buildings...

If you cut that cost in half like toyota/lexus/etc. then cars could be a little bit more affordable and GM wouldn't be in this posistion in the first place. But thats just my .02

Default misinformation station

Seeing as how everyone in this forum is intently watching GM's future health and going concern, I may as well clear up some of this misinformation about economics and business law. Claiming Ch11 Bankruptcy does NOT close the business, stop operations, wipe out all debts, receivables, or contracts!!!!

Ch11 is the protective covenant made when continuing business as usual will only build more unpayable debt. In this case, meeting very explicit and strict rules, the entity will consider filing for Ch11 protection from creditors.

This will NOT nullify any customers' contracts with GM (so your warranty, deposit, and OnStar subscription are all safe). They will only be null and void if either party voids the contract by doing something wrong or if GM CLOSES BUSINESS. It is unlikely that GM will close shop because of many variables stated over and over.

GM is poorly run; and there are NO arguments otherwise. GM sells as many auto's as the other guys but can't make profit, GM refuses to restructure, going concern is an important investor criteria and it is one of the most important financial concerns, assembly is slowly improving efficiency but not as quickly as its competitors (see the new Ford plant in Brazil), ... we can spout out these things all day and night.

Now quit playing chicken little! The more uncertainty you introduce into the consumer population the more it becomes a self-proclaiming prophecy.

Most dealers are requiring deposits for Camaros. It's usually either $500 or $1000 which will be put toward the down payment. Trust me, I have one on order. I contacted between 20 and 30 dealerships. A refundable $500 deposit was most common.

It makes sense. If they didn't require a deposit, they'd have half a million orders and a handful of actual buyers.
