Default 2010 SS vs 06/05 GTO

I was just wondering all the differences in the two. I think from what ive been reading the GTO is about the same weight. And the auto have the same hp if im not mistaken. What are the gear ratio differences and 1/4 times?

SS is faster for sure!!

GTO is 400hp LS2, while 10' SS is LS3 powered(420-430hp). Never heard of any GTO toucing 12s stock and the trap speed wont be 109-111 like the Camaro. LS3 is a superior engine and will have more top end, better heads, intake...

I would give the edge to SS, however, GTOs are no push overs. Goats weigh less than the SS and have been known to hit 12.9x bone stock.

This is a much better comparisson than the 4th vs 5th gen camaro to me since the GTO is more similar to the 5th gen. I think Ive seen 2 race weights on the 2010 being at 40xx lbs from nineball and the other car just below. So I looked up a race wheight for a stock-ish GTO and found this http://www.dragtimes.com/Pontiac-GTO...lip-10396.html

I also looked up curb weights, and GM rated the GTO at 3725 and the 10' Camaro is rated at 3750. I'd imagine those both to be base model curb weights.

GTO's have hit 12.9's stock. Bolts ons and tuning can get you low 12's. I like the SS engine and brakes better, but I prefer my GTO on everything else. I was disappointed with the GTO weight until I saw what the SS was going to come in at. I test drove an SS and if I had liked it I would have traded my car in, but I just didn't have the love connection. I felt like a rapper with the huge *** wheels. Both bone stock would be a driver race IMO, maybe a slight edge for the LS3.

That is if you run into someone that is very good at driving their GTO. They are tricky to launch.

The SS has a lot more power. I ran my buddy in an 06 GTO M6 with headers, exhaust, CAI and ported intake/TB and pulled him from a roll when my car was stock.

well what i was mainly refering to was a auto vs auto. They are the same 400hp and its not really a drivers race. Can a 01 SS auto run 12.9 stock?

I know of one goat on ls1gto that has gone 12.6 stock and low 12 with headers and tune. Although probably the rare combo of good driver/car. And a stock SS pulling on a GTO with those mods? That doesn't seem right, cause at that point he would be making more power then the stock SS. Even the stick is only a 36? hp difference.

Maybe some GTO hit 12s stock, but I doubt they did it at 109-111mph. This is why I give the edge to the Camaro.

Auto VS Auto, IDK...should be a close call. Same weight same hp.

I would still take a 10' Camaro over a LS2 GTO(who wouldnt?some GTO owner I guess:S) because of the LS3 engine. The LS3 will outperform the LS2 mods for mods.

The goat could use a tune but the guy can definitely drive. I was just as surprised as you guys, I thought I would catch my lunch. 25rwhp is a big difference. Stock for stock the LS3 SS is a faster car by a noticeable margin.

Not to knock on you, i like the camaros as much as anyone, but something had to of been off somewhere. Those mode you listed would of more than made up for the difference in power. A set of kooks headers alone would of about made up the difference. I say either driver error or his car was way heatsoaked (big problem for the goats). I agree that the Camaro would be quicker stock vs stock, but i don't see it being a huge difference. I love the new camaros though. They are pretty rare around my town and dealers are selling them way over their worth .
