Default bad lifter?

So this past weekend I went down to Virginia International Raceway for a 3 day DE event. One the first day, the second session, I was on track and had constant backfiring like a machine gun. Came in, and while idling heard a loud knock/ticking. My guess is a bad lifter. I have the ls3 motor and I was curious if this was a common problem on this car? Or any insight to what this problem could be because im not very knowledgeable on engines, could be something else? When i get it fixed im thinking of going with"race" replacements, but im not sure what brand, etc, that are good.

you need to get that checked out. comp test, check lifters, check plugs...etc
the ls3 and ls7 use same lifter which is pretty robust as long as it didn't starve for oil. I will step aside for more knowledgeble peeps to chime in.

Im wondering if oil starvation played a role in this, I do use Hoosier R6s on the track.

I had a lifter fail in the #7 while making a Dyno pull at 4200 RPM. There was 4500 miles on the car.

I've heard of lifters going bad on L99's but not on LS3's, my L99 lifters failed when I pushed my rpm's to 6,800 (while slipping the transmission), same clicking noise you described.....do you have a way to read the dtc code? Where are you? Maybe a shop close to you can check it out....

You may want to pop the valve cover and do a visual on the springs and and rockers, pretty easy.

So what's the verdict? Been a week and no update. Definitely interested to hear what you find. I'd be surprised if it was oil starvation. Have not seen this yet on any of my track days and I have ran with some very aggressive Camaros. Mine never had an oil issue either running quite aggressively though not on slicks I have seen 1.1 Gs on some of my runs. Keep us up on the issue.
