Competition for the new Maro;6.2l Mustang 400hp!!
I got this in the Car and Driver that the 2010 Mustang will get a new SOHC 6.2L 400hp. Same platform(read same weight except bigger engine) but fresh look, and it looks good. I think the battle wont be as easy as we thought for the new camaro..
Anyway, the LS3 will be a superior engine with better mod potentiel but in stock form, the battle will be hard.

if it really is a 6.2 itll probably cost more than a comparably equipped camaro. at least thats how its been in the past.
i also heard its going to be 400hp from a 5.0L. usually bigger cubbed mustang motors go into their more expensive versions. GTs are supposed to be a less expensive option.

the 6.2 l is the replacement for the truck. the 5.0l or 5.8 l will be the replacement. it also is nothing like the current mod motor. it will have a proper bore and should be pretty quick

Thats ok, i can take weight out of the camaro. And if its like the past, the mustang will be tough to mod while the camaro will have plenty of potential (03-04 Cobra aside). Also curious what the mustangs gas mileage will look like since the stang will have to up the power 100hp from current models without losing gas mileage to stay even with the camaro's reported mileage if rumors are true. if memory serves me correctly

I just noticed the article said it would be a SOHC. I thought the 6.2 litre was going to be a pushrod? A 6.2 litre OHC engine would be the size of a Bradley Fighting Vehicle. I am sure they got that info wrong. I am sure that will be a OHV engine.

A 6.2L would certainly give it some of the torque needed for it to be competitive with the Camaro/Challenger V8 models but I agree that it's not likely going to happen.
That 5.0L should still be pretty strong though at least.

bring it!!!!!! Do anyone here really think GM hasn't looked into this? They are quoted saying how the mustang isn't really any competition anymore... or something like that.
They knew the stang was gonna get a power increase, that is one of the reasons for the delay of the camaro.

You going to take 300 lbs out of a new Camaro? So basically, it'll be one seat, no mufflers, bumper supports, a/c, heat, plastic windows, radio/speaker delete, no carpet or door liners...are you going to tear apart a brand new car so that you can compete with a Mustang???
Head/cam Camaro for the win. Matching the Mustang's weight will make a 5th gen downright disgusting.

A 6.2L 400hp Mustang would get my attention. I really like the new Mustangs, but always thought that they were too slow. Now if they come out with a 6.2L car making 400hp NA and it's close to 400lbs lighter than the camaro, then I would be inclined to buy one.

Everything you listed can be bolted right back in if so desired. And yes I am, but no, not to compete with a stang, to destroy it. I've taken 300lbs outta mine and you cant tell. And there are plenty of things that can be changed to reduce without "tearing" it apart. such as a solid rear
(but if you got a Mustang and took 300 lbs out of it...heh heh...now that's light!)
