Default So why is it happening?

have noticed the posts for the amazing quarter mile times on the 6th gen Camaro SS. They seem WAY faster than the 5th Gens. What are the contributing factors? I know they weigh a little less, but there has to be something(s) else. Please enlighten me. thanks

250 lbs lighter and 25 hp more along with the 8 speed auto pretty much sums it up IMO lol

when the gen5 SS came out they were low 13 second cars. now the 6th gens are running high 11's. gotta be more than 250 lbs (2-3 tenths) and 25hp (1-2 tenths). Is the new transmission THAT good?

lt1 m6 best time so far 12.2. 5gen m6 ls3 12.5-6. Adds up fine.

L99 a6 hero time 12.8-9. Lt1 a8 11.9. 55hp dif and 200 lbs.
Pretty much adds up the a8 was good for an extra tenth or two. The stingrays never picked up a ton from the a6-a8.

the power curve of the LT1 is the key.. peak hp/tq is cool to brag about but isn't as important as the curve

trans = .2
weight is .15 or so as well.

Weight loss, more power and torque, pretty aggressively geared (similar to Ford's 6r80) 8l90 - not to mention the new 8 speed is lighter and more efficient than the outgoing 6l80

Yeah the ls7 matching torque curve to about 5000 rpm helps.

Last time I knew the fastest stock stingray was still a 14 a6.

But who knows the truth behind that run I suppose.

Weight does more to these newer pump gas engines than you would think, coupled with the better torque curve.

Before I bought my current fbody I put an unopened ls1 tuned to the max with basic bolt-ons in a light car and was shocked at it was a very low 11s car. We're talking a stock unopened 2000 ls1 engine with a tune and some headers, 16 year old engine, no nitrous or blower.

Not hard to see how a 6th gen is what it is, with what it has.

Less weight, more power, broader tq curve, better gearing...just a better overall car.

Weight - mine is 3655 with just under 1/8 tank
Transmission - the 8 speed is fantastic
Power - obviously 30hp helps, but the torque curve is fantastic (mine is making over 350ft-lbs from 2500 on up...we didn't dyno any lower)

All of those couple together make the car just flat out work.

The gearing of the 8l90 makes it straight boogie too. GM finally geared a car right. The days of gear and stall being the first mods on our 4l60 cars are over.

6th gen performance is impressive. Gearing, weight, power, all better.
