Default how to tell what year LS1 engine?

My search skills suck, although I did try a couple of times.

How do I tell what year LS1 I have?

I bought a motor swap to do a 944/LS1 swap.

The prior owner told me it was a 2001, but I believe I only have a LS1 intake manifold not a LS6.

Second it is drive by cable.

Any suggestions and or advise?

TIA
Chris

ok....just checked and the casting on my heads are "853" IIRC, it may be anywhere from a 97 to a 00. any other way to isolate the year?

the early year model 01s had 853s. Look for the date engraved in the rear cover. The engines birthday is engraved there.

On the intake issue. You should have an LS6 intake by it being from an 01. But he best way to tell is the look are the of your intake manifold if it doesn't have a hole in that little diamond shaped area on the intake manifold after the Throttle body then it's an LS6 intake. It should look like this from the top of the manifold.

That just verifies the springs production date. Not definitive. Kinda like the rear covers could be swapped. Best thing is run the number on the back of the block to be 100% sure.

This is not foolproof. Corvette LS1 intakes did not have EGR provision.

on the back of the block right under the driver's cylinder head is a casting number. find it and google it! should come up with a year. iirc 98 99 is different, then 00, the 01-02 is the same, well actually 01-04 i think. only differences after 01 is whether is ls1 or ls6. i lucked out in my 98 and ended up with a ls6 block.
