Default How does power loss occur in a low mileage ls1 engine.

Just wondering, what is wearing down to cause power loss, I have plenty of fuel pressure, the engine only has 40k on it, no smoke, no knocks or anything.

just in general what causes power loss? Is it mostly something in the head components that cause it or the cam wearing down or is it the crank/rods/pistons, etc.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Smile

could be alot of things. something simple such as a plug wire or something major like a head gasket or piston rings.

Weak Spring but that would be from over reving the motor ! Bad Gas,Dirty Air Filter,Clogged Fuel Filter,Bad Cats r some of the things that cause loss of power !

do regular maintain like those list above. Simple as plug and wire change and new air filter, or filter clean, event clean your dirty maf sensor will bring back some power.

I have no converters, lol...but I'm talking about anything other than routine maintenance, plugs, wires, filter, etc.

lets assume that all that is brand new, then where do things start to go bad, also assuming there is no head gasket damage.

Worn rings, worn/weak valve springs, cylinder wall scoring, reduced fuel pump output, poor injector spray pattern due to dirty tips, poor O2 and/or MAF readings leading to poor A/F ratio, carbon build-up on pistons and/or valves causing hot spots/detonation and thus knock retard.... to name a few.

There is no one magic thing that will cause power loss by wearing out first on every engine. How you use the engine, how you maintain it, and any factory defects or design flaws will determine what areas will likely show issues first.

02 sensors if its part throttle power loss.

Could be a lot of things... Bad plugs/wires/coil... clogged cats... bad gasoline... Or the motor as a whole might just be totally fucked.
