I've heard that wrapping headers will trap moisture in and eventually rust/erode.

After some quick research it seems that it's only a bad idea if you let the car sit for a while (not sure what a while is). If you drive often (like a DD) then the moisture that gets trapped will be burnt off.

You can't compare open headers/no open headers without doing a tune for each case. Your air/fuel ratio will change from one to the next at WOT and also at WOT your front O2 sensors don't do a thing. Your car is taken out of closed loop then.

Me personally, I think y pipes make ls1 cars sound like ******* boats.
I can honestly say my car does not sound anything like any boat I have ever heard

Default HeaderWrap

Loving the site, looking for info on my first LS1 project coming soon. I'm Jason Pope & own XPW that manufactures header wrap & turbo blankets. Wrapping your pipes does for sure create a lot more horsepower & some extra back pressure, mainly your burning off those extra fumes in the exhaust. You will get more out of wrapping your pipes, than you will ceramic coated headers (Dyno shows that, not just because I'm in that business) and much cheaper. The curves in your headers are different to create more or less back pressure for certain engines or uses. We always wanted more back pressure on shorter dirt race tracks, for the low end torque to create faster speed. I'll be back for info soon I'm sure!

What do you consider to be "a lot" more power, vs. a ceramic coating?

More backpressure? From external wrap? I'm sure as an industry professional what you meant to say here is "improved exhaust gas velocity".

There is absolutely nothing wrong with wrapping headers.

No, not backpressure, but exhaust gas velocity...

( exhaust gas velocity helps combustion chamber scavenging to help torque, back pressure hinders it )
