Arrow 4th Gen LS1 MPG's?

Hey all,

So I am debating trading my M3 in on a '00 WS6 or SS. I have found both, locally, within my price range. I'm trying to find out what MPG's you guys/gals are getting? My ex had an '00 WS6 and our friend had an '01 WS7, but I haven't talked to either in some time. My '93 Z28 was fairly good on gas from what I remember. My M3 currently averages 20.5 MPG combined. Looking for your overall average (combined) and your highway. Only LS1 4th Gen's please & list any engine/gear mods as well if you don't mind

Thanks!

You'll obviously get fairly better mileage with a M6. I usually get 18 city/22 highway and that includes some "spirited" driving.

19 combined, 25.5 hwy on a a4 with LT's, catback, 3.73 gears, 315 rear tires, tuned

yeah dude if u find a m6 u can easily expect a 30mpg figure, that good ol 6th gear helps alot, a combined figure would be similar to ur m3

Thanks all! Both cars are M6's. I had the A4 before on my 93 Z28 - loved the car, hated the auto trans. I did give in and text my ex and she said she got 19 city and 25+ highway due to the M6. My current g/f loves my M3, but I showed her the black on black 00 WS6 and her eyes about jumped out of her head. She loves it. So, that means with these MPG figures being on par (and better) than my M3, I think I am going to go snag one of these up if I can.

Just a decision as to which one:
-98 with 86k on the odo for $10.5k (Almost 2 hours away)
-00 with 60k on the odo for $14k (About 40 mins away)

Both are black on black, the 98 has white stripes and looks a bit more rough. I am going to do some more searching as well.

I think that's a bit of a stretch to say that he'll get 30mpg easily. I can maybe see it possible in an M6 in the absolute perfect setting. For example, maybe on the highway staying at a consistent speed between 55-80, on a perfect flat road, no stoplights or anything, etc.

Last time I calculated my MPG's I averaged 15 mpg. This is with a bunch of stoplight to stoplight driving with a pretty light foot, and a few semi-hard acceleration passes mixed in there, I'm hardly ever really on the actual highway so that's all city. I also have a bad drivers side cat right now so that doesn't help I'm sure.

Alot of false information in this thread. Are there people getting 29/30 mpg? Yes, but I would not consider it the norm unless you make it a point to shift low in the RPM range.

I would say that if you have a light foot and keep the speeds under 65-70 and do a lot of highway I would think you should be in the 28-30 range. But if your on the interstate where the speed limit is 70 and your doing 80 I would expect around 25 realistically. Modifications can also affect your results, a simple lid/catback usually helps a little bit. But your speed is going to play a big factor, not just it being city or highway

All in all these cars don't get terrible gas mileage for the power they make and having fun with the car you probable will see the same results as your M3, or possible a little better. But I am just tired of people starting threads asking whats wrong with there car because there not getting 30 MPG.

I have 2002 Z28, with headers, 3.42s, 3200 stall, FTP lid, tune. 18.5 wheels on all four corners.
Run consist 12.7xx @ 108 ish in the 1/4 on street tires.
Average around 18mpg city, stop-and-go on the way to work and about 24-27mpg on the highway but we have long streches of highway that I cruise at 130ish so that kinda hard to say what I would get with cruise control set at 70mph for a 200 mile trip.
Great car, currently have 112,000 on the clock.

startz t/a 17 beat me to it. I have gotten 29 miles per gallon when my car was stock(i have an M6) on 100% highway on a roadtrip before. In reality now with my mods I get about 24 on highway and around 18 in the city with some playing around sometimes also. With the manual it will be better most of the time. GOod luck post some pics when you get it!!

I get around 25 MPG going up and down hills all day at 35 mph in 4th gear running around 1500-1700 RPMs.. In my friend's 03' tiburon 6 speed he pulls the hills at 35 mph in 4th too... but at 2500 RPMs he could try 5th but it lugs. If you live in an area with a bunch of hills the camaro is the way to go. I cant speak for the a4 but im very very satisfied with my m6. You can do 55 mph in 6th gear and run 1100 RPMs.

If you lived in like Kansas or somewhere where it is flat and it's easy driving. expect your 30+ MPG... the highest Ive ever seen an fbody get on MPG is 33.5 and he still ran the 12s in the 1/4 on the weekends with over 100k mileage.

just putting my .02 cents in here. Ive only had the car almost 2 months but it might be the best decision i ever made in my life to buy one.

My 01 Z28 with lid, headers, AC delete, no EGR/AIR, ORY pipe, magnaflow catback, plus most of the free mods gets me a consistent average of 20-22 mpg. That's mostly city with quite a bit of stop and go, but with plenty of state highway 55 mph driving also. And after all the mods my foot tends to get a little heavy... haha. But just some words of advice to keep the mpg's high, don't sit and idle too much if you can help it, and I shift right around 2000 rpms, maybe a little lower. Good luck on getting your new ride!

well yeah, im being generous in my post, but looking through this forum i see some people claiming 30mpg hwy

with my mods, and gears i still retain 25 mpg hwy, i get 19 combined on a a4

https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...r-setup-2.html

epa rates a 2000 ws6 m6 as 16 city (19) 25 hwy

People will claim 23-30 hwy, all of this depends on setup, weight, tires, cleanliness, and how well maintained the car is, but ofcourse we all know that's common sense

either way if anyone gets more than 23-25 i find that very impressive

Thanks again for the additional figures. FWIW: I drive 250+ miles a week to/from work for my commute. 95% of that commute is highway driving, with minor ascents/descents. Most of the driving I do is highway. Any city driving or if it's between 60-85* and not raining I'll take the bike (44 MPG +)

My A4 gets better mileage than your Beemer, although it's tough to compare w/out knowing your driving style or conditions.

I drive failry conservatively most of the time, and do about 60% highway, 30% rural roads, and 10% city.

I average between 21.5 and 23 on a fairly regular basis. Every once in a while I'll have a goot tank and hit 23, most of the time I'm between 21.8 and 22.2.

This is running 93 octane, I tried 89 once and lost 2mpg. I also have 2.73 gears which helps on the highway, but I feel they hurt me in the city and at speeds under 40mph.

After reading your last post, you seem to have similar driving conditions as me...I have a 30 mile commute each way to work, (though mine is about 10 miles city/rural and 20 miles highway) and do about 350 miles/week total. They annoying thing is that a tank won't last me that long, so I have to fill every 4 days.It should work for you, I normally go 280 miles or so before I fill up at 1/8 tank.

But anyway, as long as you can keep your foot out of it, you'll do better than the BMW.

And with all that highway driving, the m6 would be very good. Keep in mind the figures in the high 20's are for strictly highway trips. I could do 28mpg highway with my old M6, but then in normal driving it was more like 22.
