Default Why is this SS called a Z28?

Was just cruising through some youtube videos when I came across this old one.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-A4lnkl528

In this video they call it a "Camaro Z28 SS" But it clearly has the SS hood, spoiler, and badges...no where on the car is it called a Z28, so why do these guys call it that?

Also, LMFAO at the 13.8 1/4 mile time...who pays these guys to drive these cars so terribly?

It's still a shitty Pontiac at the end of the day though

The SS is basically just a higher trim level of the Z28, so technically they aren't really wrong to call it a Z28 SS. Also, that 13.8 is slow, but I'm not surprised they ran that time, seems like they never put a lot of effort into launching the car properly. They just nail it and whatever happens, happens.

Okay, that makes sense. But it's obviously a Camaro SS...no longer a Z28, so why call it a "Z28 SS"?

So your Z28 automatic edged out the M6 SS in this crappy video. I can't believe a 13.8 is the best time they could cut.

The 2002 model had a lot more ***** than the 1998, didn't it?

Better intake heads and manifolds on a 01/02 but 98 had bigger cam. Every SS is a Z28. My rpo codes show WU8 and Z28.

Its technically a Z28 SS, because it started out as a Z28 and got the SS modifications from SLP. Doesn't matter either way if you call it that or not, most just call it SS for short.
Just like the 4th gen V8 firebird is a Trans AM, then you get a "Trans AM WS6", not a "Firebird WS6".

But the 2001 and up LS1's got the LQ4 cam, which was supposed to be better for low and mid range torque, thus why the newer LS1's felt stronger, right?

Take the VIN off of any LS1 SS and it'll read as a Z28. The SS is a Z28 that was sent to SLP and made to look better and perform a little better depending on what options were ordered from SLP.

all the v8 camaros are z28's, the ss package was put on by slp...
however, all trans ams are firebird formulas with a trans am package from the factory, then they were sent off ASC to get the ws6 package and SLP made them into firehawks
