Default coil pacs

I have a 5.3L from a '00 chevy silveradro 1500...it has the valve cover coil pacs, if I go with a MSD timing setup will I still need the stock coil pacs?..tks

is there a way to elimanate the spark coil pacs and still use a something else for the spark?

You can use the stock ones or aftermarket ones.

I don't believe you can easily use a distrubutor, if that is what you are referring to. There isn't a gear on the cam shaft to drive the distributor. I think someone makes a front cover to convert to a distributor, but if you factor in the cost of the cover and distributor, it will probably be easier to just use the MSD setup with stock coils.

Unfortunately I'm not speaking from experience. Just from what I have researched, I would not bother with a distributor conversion unless I was required to for a racing application.
