Depends on your goals. The 5.3 itself can be made awfully powerful by itself. How much are you going to be charged for the machine work?

Could be worth it, depends on cost. Are you planning on doing forced induction down the road?

eventually ill do forced induction. just wanted to be sure that its still gonna be worth building. like if i get it bored to a 5.7, it should be the same as a 5.7 block, correct?

I'd keep it a 5.3. You can make a LOT of power with the 5.3's. Sure, there's no replacement for displacement, but $$ wise. Just my .02¢

If you are building it for boost then I would keep a 5.3. If you can get the machine work cheap it may he worth it to make it a 5.7

As has been already said, I'd also keep it as a 5.3. Those thick cylinder walls are in your favor, and I don't know you'll really miss the .4 liters when you are jamming air in it.

but what about before boost. will the 5.3 with 243 heads, custom cam, ls6 intake, and long tubes still make as much power as the same set up except with a 5.7?

It should make the same power. I would think it would be within 3-5% of the larger engine. It's only about 20 cubes so you might be down 10-20 lbft. If that much.
