Well, I can tell you that I believe the LS1 MAF is a bit larger than the LT1. Not 100% on that though, but that's just what I've read. Maybe someone who has a definite answer on that part can correct me if I'm wrong.

Not really worth it to descreen the MAF IMO, it's there to keep the airflow straight so it reads consistently.

the maf in my car is already descreened. just wondering why people descreen them. i have read that removing the screen is a good thing for a higher horsepower car? anyways i might want to replace mine soon and saw a cheap used one for a 98 with a screen but dont know if it will fit in my 97

i believe that screen is there to actually do something with the airflow that passes through the MAF..

Not 100% sure though, it's been a while...

i believe you are correct. it seems the screens purpose is to eliminate turbulance and provide a more accurate read for the sensor

I've got 502rwhp with factory MAF w/ screen. I really do not see the point in descreening. The speed shop who did the tune on my car first tuned w/ my stock maf then switched to a descreened just to see if it made a difference...well it did a very very negative one. Screen all the way.

There was a similar post on here some time ago, it was answered by a very credible expert who stated the screen has a very specific and important function in air flow and was adamant about NOT removing it.

I have the Fast Toys Plastic MAF ends with no screen, and it has been doing good for about 50k. I'm sure GM put the screen in there for a reason though..

The screen is in place to straighten airflow. It was designed for vehicles with an elbow/turn before the sensor, but since the Camaro has a straight path it isn't required. Eventually it was dropped. This bit of info is from one of the LS1 project managers.

I removed mine. When I opened everything up to remove it I found a couple of blades of grass and moth wings. It was of little concern to me since it is only an indication that someone in the past had not gotten the intake closed properly. If you have an ill-fitting lid it may be good to keep it in place.

Is it really a power gain to remove it? Probably not...unless you are looking for that last .003 second in the quarter. I think it gave a more crisp throttle response, but I couldn't give any numbers to back it up.
