I plan to buy a new block and rotating assmebly, cam and heads. However it'll be spread out over a few months. I was planning on keeping everything in the boxes in my dinning room until assemebly. My question is do I need to take any special precations to store certian parts for possibly long periods of time?

No but as long as they are in a dry place the should be fine .
