Default MS4 to MS3 Cam

Just wondering. There is a WS6 I'm looking at that has an MS4 cam with all supporting mods. What all would be needed to put in a less aggressive cam like the MS3? Could you keep all the MS4 mods and drop in the MS3?

Lol you're doing a lot of work for almost an identical cam. Less aggressive would be something like a 228-232 588-615 112-114 size cam.

Would you keep the MS4 supporting mods and just put in a different cam? or would yo have to get different springs, etc?

You could definitely step down to a less aggressive setup and use your existing spring setup, but I will add stepping down to a MS3 will net you no noticeable change if your looking for better streetability.

Depends on the mileage on the springs...

So wold you suggest a cam more like:

The whole cam setup on the car has probably 8,000 miles on it.

If your wanting to step down to a much more streetable setup with a super broad powerband then the 228R is a great choice!

Why dont ya get the car first and see if ya like it,ms4 with all the supporting mods should run really well, and if it has a good gear in there you might like it,i have a ms4 in mine, it might not be the best street cam but it does the job lol,i would see if ya like it first, also if ya do wanna change cams think about future mods, boost etc,

And springs isnt a big job to do,whats some more info on the car, like i said if it has all the supporting mods the car should run great, those cams just arent great without gears/injectors and every other lil mod that helps a max effort setup,

Imo, go with a Torquer V2 or V3, 110-112lsa with a M6, 112-114 lsa with a A4 .

Have you even driven the car to see how it drives around town?

A MS4 in an auto setup isn't bad around town if setup correctly. Now a M6 might be different and more of beast to handle.

Thiscam and how it reacts is 97% dependant on the tune.

How's the valve spring life with this cam? I heard they need to be replaced every 10-15k miles?

Also, how is a big cam like the MS4 on cold mornings? I don't really have a garage to park in and it wold be a DD, which means winter/cold weather driving.

I have an 01 WS6 with the MS3 cam. I personally dont find the driveability all that bad. I even have what I would consider a rather poor tune in the car. (WOT is great on the tune, part throttle, not so much) Just gotta keep the RPMs up around 1700 and its happy around town. I even average 21mpg where I live and have gotten 27.6 on a highway cruise.

i dd the ms3 cam in my ls1 gto. cold starts are fine, its just loud on the
1st fire up. cant stress enough that a good tune makes the difference between a streetable big cam vs it running like ****.

Definitely loud. When i heard the car on a cold start it made me jump a little lol. Does sound bad *** though.

How about the valve spring life? If it isn't a track car and doesn't see 7krpm all the time, how long can you expect the springs to last?
