Have you ever purchased a new sensor and had it be crap? Thinking I might have a bad crank sensor in my car. I purchased it new a few months ago from AutoZone while I was waiting for my shortblock. Trying to start the car for the first time. Car cranks and cranks but does not fire, just pops out the intake after about 5-10 seconds.

It can happen. It could be several other things though as well. Did you change to a shortblock that uses a front cam sensor? Have you checked for codes to see if it's showing a code for either cam or crank, or cam/crank correlation?

Yes, it is a 402 Ls2 and im using a ls1 PCM with a base tune from Speed inc. I do have the 24x reluctor and the 1x cam gear. I just replaced the cam sensor and it still has the same issue. The car does have air fuel and spark, just cranks and pops out the TB. My OBDll scanner finds no codes.

I have had 2 Autozone Crank Sensors for my 99 Sonoma go bad.
Its been quite a few years ago, but I recall replacing it once, then over the course of about 6 months (or whatever the length of the warranty was) replacing it again.
I was battling a Misfire and getting a "Crankshaft Position Sensor Circuit" Code. (Might have been a P0336, but at the moment I don't recall, so please don't quote me.)
Anyways, with the CKPS being new, my thinking was it had to be something else. I eliminated all the easy "Tune Up" stuff, Plugs, Wires, Cap Rotor, Fuel Filter and still had the problem. Went as far as to replace the Intake Gasket, knowing that they're prone to failure on 4.3L's and thinking, "Maybe I have leak?". No change. Thought, maybe my PCM was going so I replaced it too. Nothing. Finally I thought, "Why don't I try a GM Crank Sensor?" It was twice as much money as the one from the Zone, but once it was installed the problem disappeared.
My guess is the GM Sensor has a stronger Magnet in it that allows it to read the Reluctor more precisely than the Autozone piece, but that's just my opinion. Regardless, it fixed the problem and you may want to try that yourself.
I buy plenty of parts from the Zone, but when it comes to a Crank or Cam Sensor, I save myself the trouble and fork over the dough for a GM Piece.

I've been burned a couple of different times buying parts from O'Reilly's, Advanced Auto Parts, etc. Pretty much the only thing I do trust them on are brake pads, and only the more expensive ones.
If you buy a belt from those clowns, make sure you have your old belt with you to check the length. I got seriously burned by Advanced Auto on this changing the three different belts on my truck. I couldn't remember which one went where, then when none of them were the right length it really pissed me off.

Well, installed a new crank sensor today and still have the same issue. Had a local mobile auto repair guy stop by today with a scan tool. Im getting a cam sensor signal but no crank. The PCM sees no RPM and has no crank fault codes. I probed the harness from the female plug to the corresponding pins on the PCM harness and have continuity. Ideas?

Are you doing a crank relearn after you replace the sensor?? Its just a three wire sensor theres not much to it as far as failing. If you replace the sensor twice, its probably not the sensor. I'd hate to say its a busted crank ring!
