Default Stock upper A arm Ball joints replaceable.

Hello not sure i this is the right location for this question but i have a 00 trans am and need to replace one of the upper A arm ball joints my question is do i need to replace the hole control arm or can i just replace the ball joint it self? some people say that it can not be done figure i would get some in put on this. any info would be greatly appriciated.

This would go in the Suspension & Brakes section, but you don't have to replace the whole A-arm, you just need a ball joint press which you can rent from any parts store.

Uppers are rivited in factory. The replacements will come with bolts. Grind the rivits off and bolt the new ball joints in.

Yep either grind or use an air chisel on the rivets press out and put in the new ones.

I'd stick with a 1 piece sealed factory like ball-joint if possible.

Rent the ball joint press from an Advance if possible since I rented one from AZ first which was a smaller kit and didn't have as many adapters. The right tool makes every job easier.

You don't use/need a press for the upper ball joints, they're riveted in place.
So as already stated just cut/grind/chisel the rivet heads off, then bolt the new ball joints in place.
