Can't go wrong with either a 4.8, 5.3 or 6.0 low comp iron block.

The 4.8 will be the most reliable, while obviously the 6.0 will make more power on the same boost levels.

6.0 lq4 or lq9 for reliable power both have fairly low compression ratios

Also would it be wise to buy a complete motor or just buy short block and build up. Not sure how heads flow or are aftermarket better?

You could get in good with the fellas @ Speed Inc.; They have done every
possible turbo combo. Jim Moran who tuned my Vette has a pair of GN twins
on an LQ9 in a plain black 70 Malibu...thing is quiet and runs like mid tens.
I believe he has worked there for quite a long time.

How much power are you trying to make and what is your budget. It's impossible to answer your questions without knowing these two things.

I'd say a 5.3 or 6.0 iron block. Yes the LQ are the iron truck blocks...99% sure that is the major material difference between the LQ and LS

4.8s have been proven to laugh at stupid amounts of boost stock and are a dime a dozen im bettin a 4.8 in youre case would be a good route
