Default Where'd my gas go?

So I recently just got a '95 T/A. I'm not sure if these cars are just gas hogs or I'm missing something but this thing has just been gobbling up my money when I go to get gas. Last Monday (three days ago) I filled up my tank with about 13 bucks worth of 91 octane. Drove around for a while. Tuesday I dumped another 25$ worth into the car, once again filling it up. And now today (Thursday) I dumped yet again, another 25$ into filling this thing up. So I've spent 63$ in the past three days just keeping this thing filled up.

I've only put about 225 miles on it since I got it on Monday. About 140ish of those miles were highway, which should result in 5.5 gallons, so like 16ish dollars worth of 91. The other 85 were in town, which still should only result in about 6 gallons, maybe 7 at worst. That's still only about 25 dollars worth of gas.

I really don't get on it that much, I drive like an old man to be honest. So I'm sitting here wondering, where did my other 20 dollars worth of gas go? Are these cars really that thirsty, or is there something unusual going on?

Fill it up until it stops and write down the mileage it has. Then, next time you fill up again, fill it up all the way to the top, and write down the mileage again. Subtract your first mileage from the second mileage, and divide that number by the number if gallons it took to fill up the second time. That'll give you a better idea of what your true gas mileage is.

Filling up 20 here and 15 there will seem like money is just disappearing.

Good advice. It does seem strange to partially fill a tank. You're at the station, so fill it up.
I owned a '96 Formula for 9 years. It wasn't a gas hog and easily got over 22 mpg highway. Yeah, around town it can be somewhat thirsty but still 16-17 mpg unless 'stomping on it' too much.

"maybe" xxx miles and "maybe" x gallons is going to get you no where....especially since the stock gauge for fuel is terrible like all GM stuff (my truck will go 80-100 miles before the needle drops to the full mark)

Zlow28 gave you the best advice you need right now...need to find out where you stand before you worry.

Sometimes people don't have enough money to fill their tank all the way. or come across an expensive gas station and only fill 20 bucks to make it home where the gas is cheaper.. then forget to do it or get lazy lol happens to me. don't see anything strange about it. where I work gas for 93 Octane is $3.70ish right off the expressway when I go into where my parents live middle of the boonies its $3.20ish

Have you tried cleaning you MAF, Air filter? have you put any fuel injector cleaner in your car yet? also I didn't see is it a Auto or manual? what gears are on the car?

I always fill up to the top once I reach half-tank. I'm not partially filling it.

No I have not. 6-speed, stock gears.

I'm going to run it until the tank is near empty and basically just subtract A miles from B miles and see what kind of mileage I get. Thanks for all the input guys.

I fill my car up when it hits half a tank, it makes me "feel" like I'm not spending as much.

Please post actual mpg results so we can help you. One or more faulty sensors can cause a dramatic reduction in gas mileage.

So I went 102.9 miles, 95% in town driving, over the course of the past week. Prior to driving the 102.9 miles, I filled my gas tank full. I just got gas today and filled it all the way up again and it took 8.388 gallons. I did the math and figured I got about 12.27 mpg for that fill up. I did a decent amount of spirited driving so that plays a role. Factory these are rated 14-15 I believe in town, and that's if you drive like a grandpa 100% of the time. So 12.27 mpg seems pretty spot on to me considering the way I drove and the fact I warm my car up for about 10 minutes on cold mornings. What do you guys think?

That's not to bad. I've seen as low as 10-11 in mine with a not to stock 6.0

It's is what it is man. Make sure it's in tip top shape, fluids, filters, maintenance and be easy with your right foot.

GM didn't make one bad egg here an there. On avg these fbody v8 cars can do very well on gas. Just have to make sure it's running like it was intended to from the factory, or as it should if it's modded.

considering the spirited runs you mentioned, and mostly city driving, its not that bad. Fbodies tend to get OKish gas mileage for a v8 especially on a m6, but theyre no civics either.

You can do a full maintenance to the car, but i wouldnt expect it to make the mpgs go up to be worth the hassle. Maintenance never hurts though.
