Default 5.3 or 6.0?

I am looking at converting to a new engine. Which is the better choice ? Rods difference? Wrist pins, piston?
Are there better heads to run from one or the other?
Planning on a S476 87mm 110 AR billet wheel. And holley hi ram

Pretty similar. Your going to make more power with the 6.0 but the 5.3 will easier and cheaper to find.

Personally I would go with a 5.3 but most go with the 6.0.

As long as you get an iron block you should be ok for some boost.

I would do a 5.3 and throw a huran speed kit or on3 turbo kit . Thats my plan when my engine ***** the bed. For like 4 k you could have 500 to 600 rwhp realiably and much more if desired.

5.3L engines are probably easier and less expensive. I've picked up complete 5.3L engines for $400, but the last 6.0L shortblock I bought was $350.

Look for a later model 5.3L with the stronger floating style rods.

Don't count out the 4.8L for boosted applications. If you are set on a 5.3, make sure you are actually getting a 5.3 and not a 4.8L. They share the same block, and are marked with both displacements. Pull a head, and look at the pistons. Flat-top are 4.8 and domed are 5.3.

Big difference would be cost...you can pick up a 4.8/5.3 for dirt cheap locally or Ebay..Costed me under 2 k in total for the motor, fresh machine work, and forged rods and pistons for my LY5.

I don't think any stock engine has domed pistons. I think you meant dished?

Anyways, another good way is to look at the area with the 4.8L/5.3L embossment and the displacement should be marked with paint. For example, a 4.8L would have a shot of paint on the 4.8L embossment.

+1 for the 6.2L love mine. But mine is also a n/a motor. If you are going boost, and are on a budget. I would research getting a 5.3 and run 6.0 heads. I think I saw this set up in a 1500.
