LS1 Camaro or Evo 8

LS1 Camaro or Evo 8
I'm torn between the two cars. I plan to save up for one and hopefully buy it within 2-3 years. 400 WHP goal and DD in mind. I live in the Pacific Northwest where it rains alot in the Autumn, Winter and early spring and snows sometimes. Cost is a large consideration.

Both are great cars in their own way, but are drastically different. If it's going to be driven in rain and snow then I think the answer would be obvious as to which one to get

Do some research, for the same price you will get a lot more F body with lower miles than an Evo, but the F body will be worse to drive in the rain and you will not want to drive it in the snow.

10k car vs a 20k car?
That being said I also live in the Pacific Northwest and I DD my F-Body nearly every day all 4 seasons on summer tires. Apart from the snow, weather shouldn't be a factor in your decision process. If you can nab a nice Evo 8 for under 15k go for it.

Evo is overpriced as hell imo. That would be the main thing stopping me from getting one. Weather would be most important though like everyone else said. As far as your 400whp goal, a mild budget heads/cam (say 1200 bucks total in parts if you're smart about it plus tuning=1700) set up on an fbody would achieve that no prob with perfect street driveability. Add in labor if you cant do it yourself and you'll reach your goal for under 3k. Idk what it takes to get an Evo to that power but I have a feeling it would cost a little more than 3k in addition to the car itself being double the price of the fbody. So from that perspective theres no competition imo. Fbody FTW. But if you're going to be driving it in all kinds of weather then the Evo would probably be a better all around choice if you can afford it... As far as AWD cars go if I wanted one my broke *** self would probably be looking into an old Eagle Talon/Eclipse or something like that lol. From a performance perspective I feel like those have more potential for the money and you still get the AWD for the snow and good launches and stuff. It's older, and not quite as good looking and all that but I think the money saved makes it worth it.

It's a tough comparison based on there being two different price points. If price wasn't a factor, I would go with the Evo based on your needs.
If cost is a factor and you're simply looking for the most cost-effective means of meeting your goals, I'd buy an f-body, mod to get to 400 rwhp (bolts ons, cam and heads would blow that out of the water) and take the money I have left over to upgrade the rear end and pick up a cheap winter beater.

Some other options that may be cheaper than the Evo include Subaru Impreza WRX/STI, Subaru Legacy GT/V-Spec, Audi A4 2.0T, and Mazdaspeed6. All have aftermarket support, and all can achieve your desired goals.
