How often do you WOT?
So, I read into a thread on the transmission that comes with the F-bodys, which is the 4L60E transmission. A lot of people say it is POS and there have been many people on here saying it has gone to crap on them in a matter of 20-50k miles.
My 2004 Trailblazer has the same transmission and I have WOT that thing about 5,000 times since I have gotten it in 2008 and I have yet to feel any transmission problems at all.
This is why I am very curious as the why these transmissions are bashed on this site.
Also, how often do you WOT your F-body when taking it for a cruise?
How often do you WOT each week would you say?
And, if someone here has had this transmission go out within 20-50k miles, what the hell are you doing to it to make that happen?

probably people going WOT on the highway through the 3-4 shift.
I always leave it in third and when it comes to 4th i let off the gas and wait until it shifts before going WOT again
but i've went WOT through 2-3 SO many times. same with 1-2

I have 140,000 miles right now on my Trailblazer LS and I have beaten the **** out of that thing. The engine and tranny have nothing wrong. Even though there has been a SES (dummy light) light on for 3 years now, and I have never gotten that checked out. But, I was just curious to know how many time per drive/week you guys WOT your F-bodys? Can these cars take a beating, or are they sensitive?

I drive my car weekends only and I drive mine pretty hard, when I go to the track I will make 10-12 passes in a single day, plus the drive to the track with buddies maybe 20 wot on a track day, on a normal driving/cruising day I would say 2-5 wot unless I find a good race at a stop light

I've had great experiences with 4L60Es, in all four of my 4th gens. I just sold my '02 Z28/4L60E car a few months ago; 107k miles on the stock auto and it saw WOT action on a regular basis. WOT 1-2, 2-3 upshifts, and plenty of 4-2, 4-1 downshifts as well. Never an issue. But the trans fluid was changed at 40k, 70k, and 100k. Many people tend to neglect fluid maintanance.
This should definitely be avoided.
Also, they will last a lot longer with stock shift points. The higher you go beyond 6000rpm, the harder it is on the stock trans. This is another known killer of 4L60Es.

I went WOT at least once pretty much every time I got in my car before putting my s60 in. Nothing is more fun IMO than launching from a dig with a stalled auto with drag radials and having a firm 1-2 shift. I have a built trans so I'm not worried too much about it. I can't wait to get my new rear all broken in so I can have some fun with it.
If I'm going to go wot on the highway I'll manually put the car in 3rd gear to help avoid the 4-2 downshift.

its pretty well known SS versions will(PROBABLY) go through at least one trans before hitting 100k.
IF YOURE GOING TO MOD AN LS1 FBODY plan on having to have your trans rebuilt at some point if it hasnt been already among other things.

I noticed the thread. Came useful to me aswell. So quick question... I have a 95 A4 and I noticed regular driving my car shifts 2500rpm - about 3500.! but at wot it shifts like 6000rpm after first... Or is it the faster the speed , the higher the shift point.? Shed some light please would you
At WOT, shift points are programmed by RPM and MPH.
A stock 4L60E is only designed to operate at 6000rpm and below. So shifting a stock unit at, say, 6600rpm (via custom tuning) is going to create accelerated wear.
I've never worried about doing anything special for the 4-2 downshift, I must've done hundreds of these over the years without an issue.

My mechanic told me to do this as well. I'm usually just WOT once every 2 or 3 months though in reality. I like accelerating fast at times but 'pedal to the metal' is a rarity. Someone is going to get a nice used T/A some day

I typically run through at least one gear or two every few days just to "keep her clean" (and because it's fun).
I'm in a densely populated area and only have a short commute through local neighborhoods to get to work, so it's not an ideal area to play around. I try to save most of my fun for highway entrance ramps during off-peak times and the track.

All great answers, and it's interesting to see what people do with them. I envy guys like this ^^^^. I just don't have the patience to wait a month or 2 MONTH! for god's sakes to WOT. I'm young and dumb I guess, but I wish I could control my self. I would say I WOT my 2002 A4 Z28 about 20 times per week, and this is like 10 times on a saturday and 10 times on a sunday.

If I'm going to go wot on the highway I'll manually put the car in 3rd gear to help avoid the 4-2 downshift.
