Default Heat/Defrosters makes car feel like AC is on

When I had my old 2000 Trans Am WS6 6speed car, I had a spec 3 clutch and I remember when it got colder out when just having the heat on it felt like the car bogged easier like when you turn the AC on, while taking off.

Just wondering if anyone else notices this? Is it the same with the C5 vettes and GTOs? How about the new Camaro and C6 vettes?

I eventually want to buy another possible 4th gen fbod or maybe C5 vette or even the new Camaro, so I wasn't sure if this is a normal problem.

If your defrost is on your A/C compressor does cycle

I hated the way the car drove with the spec 3 with the Defrosters on. Is this a problem with all 4th gens? It doesn't make sense to me for it to do that. But that's what I was thinking it did.

Having the A/C on while in defrost mode is what removes any moisture from the inside of your windows, all GM's and pretty much every car (with A/C) is made that way.

Like hardbones said, when defrost is selected, a/c engages in order to remove moisture, it is that way in every vehicle make and model

Like has been mentioned, that is how the system works in all vehicles.

I do agree with this, though.

In my Nissan, they give you the choice whether the compressor is on or off. It is a nice option. Of course when you hit the defrost button, it automatically turns the compressor on but you can hit the AC button and it turns it off while still blowing through the defrost vents. I also have the option to run the AC is Eco mode which kicks the compressor on less.

Why can't GM do stuff like that?

My car had the factory tune with long tubes and off road y-pipe, so idk if it was because after the exhaust was done it wasn't tuned or what.

Probably just more noticeable because of the spec3 which I hated, but this was years ago it squealed every time I left from a stop.
