Default Desperately Need Help With Cam Positioning Sensor

(New to this forum needing help.) I own a 06 GMC Envoy Denali which came stock with the 5.3L LH6, which is a gen 4 full aluminum block with DOD/AFM. I had a rod go down at 135,000 miles. The direct replacement was out of my price range so I did some research and decided to put the trusted LM7, which is a gen3 cast motor. Everything swapped over just fine except knock sensors and cam position sensors because I went from a gen4 to a gen3. I found good locations on LM7 and used stock knock sensors the cam positioning sensor wire. What I thought was going to be simple just extend it and swap the outside wires and it should work, wrong. It did not work. I am stuck and don't know what to do. The vehicle idles great and at higher rpm runs awesome, but because cam sensor isn't working it is hard starting and sluggish at lower rpm range.

Are you using a scan tool or are you guessing it's the cam POSITION sensor (it doesn't "position" anything, it only tells the position of something)? I'm not understanding if you tried to use your original sensor in the lm7 hole (it would be too short to react to the lm7 cam), your original one in your original timing chain cover (lm7 sprocket isn't set up to give a position signal to a Gen 4 cmp sensor), or if you ran wire to use your original harness connector on the lm7 cmp sensor. Does the crankshaft have the same tooth count?

Did you use the sensor that came with the LM7 and just extend the harness in the truck? If so, I believe the two end wires (A & C) need to have their positions swapped in the cam plug in order to work.

I did use the cam sensor for the LM7 and just extended the wires. I also swaped the 2 outside wires just like the diagram. I checked a buddy of mine that has a silverado with LM7 and the wires are right. I don't know what else to do someone told me that they made 2 different cam sensors for the gen 3 motors but I can't find any info on them. My reluctor wheel on old and new motor are both 24x.

Have you verified that the sensor itself is good? It could be a bum sensor.

I'm from Parsons, TN and I am using my Diablo Sport tuner as a scan tool, as well as a friends innova. They both are telling me the cam sensor is bad. When I do live data read everything is showing within good ranges except for between 1500-2000 rpm my timing is showing extremely low, causing a loss of power.
