Default Installed full bolt on's, Then hit something on the highway and trashed the engine...

So wouldn't luck have it, I finally get all my bolt on's done..
and two weeks later I hit something on the highway, that poked a hole in my oil filter...

yeah you read that right, a hole right in the outer edge of my oil filter..
On a dark rainy morning.

The worst part about all of it is the oil pressure never fell off, until I stopped the car when I pulled up to work.. And of course I killed it as soon as that happened, and pushed it into the shop.

Then I find the hole and order an oil change for the car, figuring everything would be ok as it had just lost pressure.. WRONG

Start it back up and at first I thought everything was cool, until I started listening under the car and noticed a very faint sound..
And the only way to describe it was like marbles lightly rolling around on the bottom of the oil pan.. NOT GOOD

I was expecting to see some cheap oil filter and to tell you you should have used a Wix, but damn it is a Wix.

What the hell did you hit?

no cheap oil filter, and i still have no idea what i hit.. but I wasn't the only one, that same day there were two cars off the side of the road. not more than 100 ft. from where this happened to me, with the tires practically ripped off the rim.

I called it into my insurance company, and surprisingly they paid for the engine. 100%

Thats awsome, if they just cut you a check for parts and labor you could probably get some free mods doing the work yourself.

That's surprising. Who's your insurance carrier? Was that a full-coverage policy?

thats great they paid. do you have a deductible?

maybe they can prove negligence and your rates might not even go up. not that they would necessarily.

progressive.. the deductible was covered by me doing the R&I, my rates didn't go up at all.

Nothing came out of my pocket to fix this which imo is great.. I was very surprised by all of it..

and yes it is a full coverage policy

I'd buy this.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/TMS-440HP-5-7-Aluminum-block-LS1-LS6-performance-long-block-Thompson-Motorsports-/281302724183?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item417ef2ee57You should be able to get it shipped install it yourself and have it dyno tuned and still have enough money left to fill the tank up once.

I opted to go this route for around the same money, I shopped around and got the best deals on every single part I bought..

and came in just under budget with having the block sleeved
so I should have enough for a tune and my first tank of gas still lol

Nice, that should be pretty sweet. My suggestion was just the easy way, looks like your going to have a nicer setup though. What CID will it be when its done?

the block just got finished Friday. I go pick it up from the machine shop tomorrow, I am extra excited about getting that piece back.

The rest of this process was pretty stressful, research, buy parts. Do more research buy more parts, wait for said parts to arrive, buy more parts.. and research some more..

My insurance company valued my car over $16,000, I thought the same thing.. But I asked what their limit would have been before they would have considered the car a total loss.. and he said based on the cars condition, we had a little over $9,000 viable limit to pay for repairs.

Then he shocked me with, what they say is the actual cash value of the car.. I was like S***
