I have a 97 yukon with the L31 vortec engine . Im approaching 200K soon. Its starting to seem like its burning a bit oil at start up condensation or water. Point being the engine is getting tired.
Ive been looking for a LSX to swap in. Ive been reading , looking into prices ect. Im hoping to have the engine ready before my SBC ***** the bed.
I found a guy with high miles 5.3, MOTORS SHOT.He says blown head gasket. Who knows but I really don't mid because I own a cnc machine shop. I have no problem building a motor heads brackets 3d parts what ever.
SO I ask the guy what does he want to sell the complete motor , oil pan to TB with harness and ecu for . I get a reply 700$
I honestly was thinking that quite a bit for a motor thats shot. May have warped cracked heads or block. Or am I wrong is that what a 2003 5.3 basket case engine goes for ?

Around here you can find them as low as $300 and running around $800. 6.0's from $300 to $1500.

If you have one of those junkyards where you can pull your own parts, that will be the cheapest. I pulled a 6.0 w/ a 4l80e, all accessories, wiring, pcm, etc, for $350, In the past year I have passed up another 6.0 a month ago, (2) 5.3's and a 4.8. All for the same price of around $300 from the yard. Been too busy so I left them, and now i'm too cold.

They can be found,

personally, I would hold out and look more, $700 is a gamble
