Default LSx dropout vs build up

i am looking for a LSx set up for my 76 TA project.

LSx t56 dropouts on eBay and Craigslist are getting up there in price.

I am starting to think it may be better to piece so ring together. I don't want to spend countless hours and dollars hunting down all the parts though.

Like to hear everyone's thoughts.

My goal is a mild LS and I want to twin turbo it with a 6sp

I sold 4 complete LS1/t56 dropouts in running condition with pcm, engine harness, all accessories, clutch, shifter in the last year an a half. price all depends on year, mileage an condition. sold them for between $3300-$3800. just a t56 in good condition goes for $1400-$1800. hope this helps.

Start looking for a complete car because buying here & there gets you non matching parts. Its also more pricey than buying all in 1 time.

I just went to Grand rapids and picked up an ls1/t56 combo for $3300 with 85k miles on them. Just keep watching craigslist, seems like all the ls deals are down in your neck of the woods.

I bought a wrecked z28 for my swap to have everything at hand.

If you buy one with interior and desired exterior parts like ss hood or spoiler or other stuff on firebirds, you can make some money back also.

I just bought a 2000 5.3/4L60E today out of silverado with 80k on it $700 cash money. The guy even delivered it as he wanted his garage space. Deals on trucks are easier to find.

I'm with this guy. The 5.3 is always cheaper than the LS1. If you're set on the T56, I'd buy the engine and trans separately. You should save money overall given that the 5.3 can be acquired for so cheap. If you're doing a TT setup, the difference between the 5.3 and the 5.7 shouldn't make much difference. Not for the price, anyway.

Beyond that, I'd say just keep looking. Maybe browse the scrap yards for recently wrecked F-bodies/GTOs and see if that gets you anywhere.

If you need the f body accesories/intake and oil pan your better off buying a complete ls1 IMO unless you get the 5.3 for dirt cheap.

Agreed....kind of depends on how you plan on doing your accessories. I lucked out and found a LQ4 6.0 for $600 minus the intake, front accessories, computer and harness. But I didnt need any of that stuff since I carbed it, and bought an electric water pump. Deals on LS's are getting harder to find but there are still some out.

I've seen some decent deals on ls1's on craigslist lately. A lot of people now days are asking as much for the iron truck engines. If you have the clearance to run the truck stuff, one of these engines would be the way to go. I'm helping a buddy do an ls1/t56 swap in a 3rd gen Camaro and it was cheaper just to get a complete ls1 rather the get the truck engine, different intake/oil pan/accesories ect.
