I have a 2000 trans am my steering column is in bad shape I am going to get another one from another 00 ta if I get the vats box with the other column and install both in my car is that all I need to do im sure the keys will not be the same resistance

You'll probably need to get a copy of the key that comes with the new column made from a blank with the correct resistor pellet. I'm pretty sure the correct resistance for the ignition is stored in and read by the BCM.
