Default LQ4 popularity?

since ive returned to this site ive noticed it seems most people on here are building or swapping LQ4s into their 4th gens. is this the new standard around here? years ago when I last was on here I didn't notice quite as many as I see now in everyones sigs. whats the advantage of the LQ4 build over the standard LS1 build if someone was shooting for just the usual moderate H/C/I car?

There's enough wrecked vehicles out there now that any of the standard LS series engines are pretty cheap and easily obtainable. If you had a choice for a 4.8, 5.3, and 6.0L, and all were reasonably close in price, more often than not I'd choose larger displacement. I ended up with $450 into my 41,000 mile LQ4 6.0L/2WD 4L80E, and I haven't even finished selling off extra parts yet.

It's a truck motor, needs the LS intake/fuel rails/injectors/harness. Otherwise basically yes.

Every one has pretty covered it, but one other advantage is the added cubes and the added torque that it brings.
