Any tips on beating a 350z? I'm pretty slow on the launch.. I looked for a newb guide on how to launch properly, but i really dont want to screw up my tranny messing around not knowing wtf im doing.... can someone school me on proper launch (street tires, stock 2000 ss convertable (got flowmaster exhaust))

I pretty damn sure a 2000 SS will run better than a 14.5. That's a horrible time for a ls1.

As long as you don't completly screw the launch, you'll beat a 350z.

Anyway, don't go by times that you read. From what I've noticed around here, unless you've never tried racing your car or are at some crazy elevation, mid-13's are about normal for an F-body. You *could* be a little slower since you're in a vert, but 13's should still be easy. Therefore, you shouldn't have much of a problem with any 350Z you come across, unless it has an experienced driver or some kind of FI.

Here's what you need to do to win:

1. Stop magazine racing.
2. Start car.
3. Drive car to place where race will occur.
4. Apply throttle.

Seriously, as long as you don't completely blow the launch, you will bring home a win. Stock for stock, a 350Z is no match for an LS1. With a competent driver, your car is capable of low-13s @ 105-108.

The only tip you need for beating a 350z is this: press the pedal on your right all the way down. That's it! ......and those numbers are wrong. 14.5!!? If thats what your running, sell your car...

By the way, you have this situation completely backwards. The 350z is at a disadvantage, not the SS!

My advice to you: Spend as much time as you can on this site, will be the best thing you can do for you and your car.

Post the article with the times the Camaro made, that has to be a typo, or they launched in reverse, turned around and finished the 1/4 mile. My very first time at the dragstrip with no prior racing experience I ran a 13.7@104.

Look this is what you do, rev to rev limiter then dump the clutch soon as you hit the limiter shift and repeat.

14.5? Maybe in reverse. Any halfassed driver should be able to pull down a 13 second 1/4 mile in an ls1 car. Keys to launch on the street with no traction, just don't slam it to the floor or your blow the tires away. Keep it under control and roll into it. Then wave goodbye to your buddy in his 350z...

So proper launch, rev to like 3k, release clutch? heh.... remember.. im a noob.

On the street I would launch at like 1500RPMs, at the track maybe 2000RPMs. Just get out and practice in a safe, deserted area.
EDIT: and seriously, where did you get those times?

Sorry, I thought it was an auto for some reason. No, with cold tires and pavement, revving to 3K and dropping the clutch on full throttle equals spinning tires. I would leave like you are leaving a stop light and trying to get in front of someone to get over a lane. Once you are rolling a bit, you can roll gently but quickly into the throttle paying attention not to break loose. Once your there, drive it like you stole it!

DO NOT DROP THE CLUTCH! Hell, you could launch off idle and run one of THOSE things down. SS>350Z any day of the week.

They are slow as molasses. Barring driver error, you will stomp him into the ground. I drove one a few months back, I was thoroughly disappointed by the lack of power.
