Default Traction woes

I lost to a car I shouldn't have lost to today due to traction issues. Without changing the tires, what are some things I can do to get better traction?

Get drag radials or lay off of it.

Mind telling us what you lost to?

tires are the number one thing to do. All of your suspenion mods that you can do will only be good if the tires will hook. If you don't have sticky tires, your limiting yourself.

No, actually it's one of my buddies, so I know for a fact he wasn't spraying. We did a 1st gear punch from about 10 mph. I sat there spinning while he hooked and left. I was RAPIDLY fetching him when we shut down about 65mph. My tires were cold, but so were his. I had my car on the dyno about a month ago, I put down 350rwhp (his is only rated at 340 fly), AND I've got about 400 lbs on him. I could use new spark plugs (when it was on the dyno, they said it was detonating pretty bad), could this be part of my problem?

Here's the car, it's pretty sweet. He's got the full Saleen suspension, and the 3:73 gear option.

Try using second gear instead of first, he will get a jump on ya but you should catch back up pretty quick.

Or try actually "racing", lol.

Seriously 10-65mph is only a blip of the pedal not a race. I mean a stock C5 z06 can go from standstill to 60 in just over seconds. From 10mph you should have more available traction, so that race only lasted what 5 seconds?

But yeah as others have said, if you have tractions issues lay off the gas a bit and be smoother. Going WOT is not a good idea if you can't use it, 50% throttle may have actually been faster.

But play to your and your cars strengths. The C5 z05 is a beast of car with plenty of top end. And if you are having issues racing from a dig or low speed try and run from a higher speed over a longer distance.

Having the fastest car is one thing, but racing is about driver and conditions.

Nittos suck for traction. you need to get a nice set of sticky rubber like some BFG drag radials now they hook very well. Also you just need to let off the gas a bit when you feel the car spinning you would have killed that poor lil saleen.

If you are worried that the drag radials that everyone is telling you to get will upset the fine handling of your Z; another solution is to use R compound open track/road race tires, but right now it looks like you're limited to Pirelli Corsas in the stock Z06 rear size. If you don't mind giving up some left-right response, they're right, the BFG new tread drag radial is available in that size and will help your launch quite a bit.
