Default Got a letter in the mail today....

It reads:

Dear Edwin Casanova:

As the owner of a 2001 model year Chevrolet Camaro your satisfaction with our product is very important to us.

This letter is intended to make you aware that some 2001 model year Chevrolet Camaro vehicles, equipped with a 5.7L V8 engine, may have failure of the left or right catalytic converter.

This is not a recall. Do not take your vehice to your Chevrolet dealer as a result of this letter unless you believe that your vehicle has the condition as described above.

What We Have Done: General Motos in providing owner with additional protectin for the right and left catalytic converters. If this condition occurs on your 2001 Chevrolet Camaro within 10 years of the date your vehicle was originally placed in service or 120,000 miles (193,000 km), whichever occurs first, the condition will be repaired for you at no charge.

What You Should Do: Repairs and adjustments qualifying under this special coverae must be performd by a General Motors dealer. You may want to call the servicedepartment at your dealer to find out how long they will need to have your vehicle so that ou may schedule the appointment at a time that is convenient for you. This will also allow your dealer to order parts if they are not already in stock. Keep this letter with your other important glove box literature for future reference.

The letter goes on to say about reinbursement and how you should mail them a claim form (that was included with the letter) with a receipt

funny part is my car doens't have cats

Just wanted to pass info to anybody that does and has or had a problem with their cats

Got mine today as well. Stock cats gone and Kooks Catted Y with Magnaflows are in their place. Just as well, I don't like leaving my car at stealerships.

Got mine in the mail today. I've still got my stock cats, guess I'm a minority. I want to be treated equally, but with extra privelages!!! Just kiddin'.

Anyways, any word what promted GM to do this? It seems that things like sail panels and window motors are much larger problems in these cars.

Got one for my 02 2 days ago...Funny part is I have a block on all warranty items due to my car being a former flood vehicle. Somehow I think even if my stock cats went bad I'd have trouble getting them repaired even with this notice. Won't matter, they are gone come spring anyway...

I'm the second owner but my gut tells me they found me since I have my car registered on "mygmlink.com".

Got mine today, but like most others my stock cats are gone, got SLP high flow cats on it now. I did have one of the stocks ones replaced in 02 though, but the car was still under warranty, no cost to me.
