This is a misfire code. Have auto-zone pull your codes. This should be stored and will tell you just what is going on. I am willing to bet it cuts out a tad when it does this or seems "rough".

PS. If you read your manual that came with the car you would know this

[I got VERY BORED! one day working at a firework stand and read mine cover/cover. Learned some useful stuff (see above) ]

It is dripping on the opti. I Vote opti, but have your codes scanned. No Autozone does NOT CHARGE $75!!! Stop listening to people that tell you that.

Is it your "check gages" light that's flashing or the "service engine" light that's flashing?

If it's the check gages light, that has nothing to do with a misfire. Unless you also have or had an SES light then there will be no DTCs stoored for anyone to scan.

Sounds like you may have killed an o2 sensor or two.

It's the check guages...maybe your fuel was low or something? I dunno. On accel it raises the fuel level though (from what my guage reads). Odd.

Next time it happens, do what the light says and check your gages! Might be oil pressure or volts going too low under heavy throttle.

Not ever owning a car with a "check gauges" light before, the first time I saw it I had visions of a diagnostic and endless head scratching. I was confusing it with a service engine soon situation. It turned out I was low on gas. In your case, you were low on volts. I was guessing since you have an M6 and if you go high on rpm - I've done it a few times - you will see the light with that too. The flashing check gauges condition is new to me as well. I'm thinking that signifies an immediate critical condition unlike being low on gas etc.. I'm going to look in my manual now to see if there is any information on it. Thanks for following up and giving the end result.

It probably wasn't "flashing" exactly, probably flickering very quickly. That's what it does when one of the gages is right on the threashold of illuminating the light. I had the same situation once with a low voltage condition. It would flicker at first, then as it got worse it would stay on steady.
