Default Need help with Firehawk top speed question

I remember a few years back there was a magazine or something that was testing the top speeds of both a Lightning and a Firehawk. I remember that both cars had their limiters removed, and that was the only mod done to them. The Firehawk hit 171 if I remember correctly. Anyone know what I am talking about? Search has yielded favorable results, and it isn't showing up on the web, but I KNOW I read this awhile back.

yea I mean the speedo will be pegged at 155, but the RPMs will continue to rise so that means your continuing to go faster

I know that for all fbodies, the limiter is 162mph, unless they come with the non z-rated tires. I would imagine the drag limit on all the LS1 fbodies is pretty similar. What I am trying to find out is the name of the magazine or article that had a Firehawk in particular doing flatout 171mph using instrumention other than the speedo around a top speed track. There was also a Lightning involved in this, if that jogs anyone's memory.

I remember something about a stock LS1 Corvette (2001) being "drag limited" to 177 and that with the addition of brake cooling ducts the Z06 Vette was "drag limited" to 172. Then if you figure that the aerodynamic drag of all f-bodies is higher, a lower "drag limited" speed will be attained. I also remember a stock 98 SS that was tested to a "drag limited" speed of 167. So I bet a 2002 might hit 171 stock.

I am sorry I can't help with your search though.

Sounds right to me. The estimates that I have read say that a stock F-Body should top out 5th gear around 172.
