Why do dealers...
How come dealers always think that they can get away with charging too much for cars? I know dealers usually get more than private parties for cars, but some dealers around here are just stupid. I went to look at a T/A today, and it wasn't ridiculously overpriced, but still too high. It was a red 1999 A4 with he said around 89k, and he was asking $11,500. I just recently bought my white 1998 A4 with 47k for $10,000. Sometimes it just irks me that dealers try to screw people over, especially since they probably only paid like $6k for that car.

I know what you mean though. Say when you look at KBB, it says that since you own your car it is worth $11,200. But if Main St. Motors owns your car, its worth $13,000.
Its one thing to sell a car for more, but for it to be valued higher because it is at a dealership? I don't understand.

idk about where you guys are at... but in this part of IL on autotrader a T/A with about 30-50K miles consistantly brings 13-15K. i was looking at them on autotrader the other night. I love those prices b.c i got mine w/ 21K miles for 12900.

dealers do you some overhead to cover so you can expect them to be higher than a private seller but some of them are just greedy bastards.
my friend went to buy an 06 m6 BOM GTO with 8k on it. the dealer wanted almost 27 and wouldnt move off the price. then he got a quote for a leftover GTO at another dealer for 28k with no miles on it. WTF!

Does anyone know what it costs to run a business? The extra money paid at a dealership should also be toward piece of mind. If something breaks, they'll help you out. Loan you are car etc... NOT all dealerships are that way, but smaller town shops tend to be... I wouldn't step foot on some of these HUGE dealership lots... All you see in these salesman's eyes is $$.
