Default So does it drive anyone else mad when...

...someone says: "yeah, this here LS1 aint nuthin but an ol' 350"

and you say "Uh...no its entirely differ..."

and they cut you off and say "Its the same damn thing"

I go into a tangent then.

Does this happen to anyone else?

I've had a few old rednecks try and tell me that, I set them straight though. I had one guy who swore on his life that since the old 350's were 5.7's and the LS1's are 5.7's that they were the same motors but the LS1 got a fancy name . I found an excellent write up on the LS1 and he was standing there with his foot in his mouth, I don't know where that article went, but I still wish I had it.

yeah that makes me sick "its a 5.7 by a gay *** metric system" so does

formulas are slower

should have bought a ws6 they are way faster

trans ams are better cars

you should have bought an m6 they are so much faster

yeah a a4 is gay m6 is the only way to go

i get of sick of it i even get some of those by ls1 owners. well line up with a similar modded a4 car with a stall and gears and see who wins

The LS1 and a regular 350SBC are identical...as far as both having a bore center-to-center measurement of 4.40 inches. Other than that. There is not a thing they have in common.

im sorry i dont understand the center to center bore talk. could some body clearify for me. all im familiar with is cylinder bore and its 4.00 in a sbc350 im not truely sure what the cylinder bore on an ls1 is. i have never been that far into one. also i have always been under the impression that ls1 have a smaller bore and larger stroke than a sbc 350 please correct me if im wrong.

lol, the imperial system is the *** backwards system bro, the ONLY place i see the imperial system as universal still is measurements(the good ol feet and inches, and even then, im starting to see more dimensions/measurements come down as metres, cms and mms). The metric system, altho evil , WORKS.....God knows i'll get flammed to hell and back. In that respect, i have NO clue as to cubic inch disp, and usually ONLY look at eng. size in litres

If they're stupid enough to say something like that than I don't even bother talking to them........but if the guy is being a real ***** just race him and show him how your plain ole 5.7L will blow his doors in.

Yea I hate that too .... so many mustang people around here where I live .... almost all of them haven''t a clue about a fourth gen f-body. Dont get me wrong , I know there is mustang guys out there that know about all kinds of cars including ours(f-bodys) , you'd be suprised how stupid some f-body people are too ......

I hear these ALOT

1) Ya its a Corvette Engine ....... somewhat true but still VERY annoying
2) Yea its a V8 Firebird , they made those ya know ......
3) Yea WS6 means 6-speed .......
4) Yea its totally stock except for the hypertech programmer , ya that made it haul alot more *** , ALOT more ....
5) That SS is gonna totally beat that Z28 because its a SS ......
6) So is your Z28 auto or 5-speed? ......
7) Why should I mod it? Its got tha corvette engine , thats waay enough ....
8) Yea Trans Ams are waaay faster than Camaros ......
9) Hell No Im not racing that Mustang(say a totally stock 4.6 2valve GT for example) that thing'll kick my *** , its a mustang duh .........
10) So does your 98 Camaro got a 305 or what? .......

srry for so many guys , but you'd be amazed at the level of retardation around here ....... im totally serious

Try owning a mopar. If it has a small block then they think it's a 350. If it has a big block then they think it's a 454. Oh well, I guess the most important thing is that people are interested in cars-whatever kind it is.

My boss is convinced that the totally stock '69 Dodge Coronet 440 with the 6-pack he once owned would run 11's and would outrun any modern car....

yeah...

...for the record, I'm a fan of old mopars. I own a '73 Duster and get plenty of magazines and articles about track meets with just about any old mopar made. The best I've seen are high 13's out of modded cars.

yeah ive had the tree fiddy conversation with lots of people. just save yourself the trouble and say "yeah its a 350." if they go deeper into the subject the explain its a 346 and has (over) 345 hp stock.
then when the old guy asks how big of a jet you put in the carb, just drop the conversation...lol
