Default Is it necessary warming up the car in the morning?

The search link wasnt working, so I thought I'd ask here.
Is it necessary warming up the car in the morning? If so, how long?

Thanks in advance.

Ya dont have to let it warm up all the way. Just give it a min or two to get the oil churnin and drive easy till shes warm.

Yeah if its spring or summer, i usually just get in and go, but take it easy for a little while. If its winter, I usually let it sit running until the temp needle starts to move, then I drive but take it easy until fully warmed up.

It's necessary if you have any kind of an aftermarket cam! But even on my old Z I always let it sit for at least a couple of minutes (unless I was late for work and even then I still gave her a minute)

there was a huge thread about this a while ago....

basically, pussyfooting it for about 5 or so minutes is much better than letting the car sit and idle for 10 minutes

A few issues of Popular Mechanics ago they did a write-up on it. The verdict was that modern cars don't need to warm up at all. I still let mine sit until the temp gauge starts to move and don't get on it at all. I don't like seeing the oil pressure at 80 psi.

+1 for idlin til it the temp gauge starts to move, and usually try to keep her under 2500 until full temp is reached. idling for more than 5 minutes is a waste, and yeah really modern cars don't need to be warmed up, but I do let her circulate the oil a bit/warm up very gently....then beat it like it owes me money

I usually let the motor go through its cold start routine, let it come back down to a somewhat normal idle speed before driving off, otherwise it wants to idle at 1200 rpm until I come to a complete stop and allow the routine to finish
