well a friend of mine just bought his 06 civic si right from the dealership and keep telling me about how fast that car is and all that jap crap ,power to weight radio, v-teck and that imports are faster than us and a four cylinder is the way to go and bla bla. well as you all know his cars is 6 speed and mine is a4. do I stand a chance? mine is 97 lt1 trans am with an automatic. he said his car does high 13 at 1/4 mile. please let me now

yeah, um you are obviously new at the American Muscle way... Honda is just a heavily modded bicylce with an overdrivet hey call vtec... my friends got a 2000 Si modded and i just mess with him hitting brakes slowing down next to him then taking off then brakes over and over... you WILL win

If his car isn't modded, he's totally full of **** on the 13s part. Stock they are low 15s, not anywhere near 13s. As for why people pay attention to them--different strokes for different folks. They CAN be made fast, but most of the time they just aren't.

well Iam not new at it. I used to have a 97 firebird with the sport package but I just thought that from the nineties to now they should've been at the same power than ours cars.

Accordingto edmunds, the Honda Civic SI runs a pathetic 15.1. That isn't even close to 13s. Even more, that article has the Saturn Ion Red Line running a half second quicker. You should pull more than a full second on him if you do it at the track. Furthermore, your auto is not a disadvantage.

As far as power to weight, consider:
Honda Civic SI approx 2900 lbs @ 197 hp
approx 14 lbs per hp

LT1 FBody approx 3600 lbs @ 300 hp
approx 12 lbs per hp

But that doesn't tell the whole story. Consider now torque
Honda Civic SI @ 139 lb-ft
approx 21 lbs per lb-ft

LT1 Fbody @ 315 lb-ft
approx 11.5 lbs per lb-ft

i had a buddy that said his friend had a civic si that was fast....i decided to give him a ride....by the end of the ride i asked him about how fast the civic was and he said it was slow now...hahaha
