Default Anyone else have problems with turn signal sockets corroding?

My front two turn signal/parking lamp sockets are in pretty rough shape (corroded) and I was wondering if anyone else has delt with this? I called the dealership and they are charging $65 for the socket and I have to solder it in to the existing wires. So basically it will cost me about $130.... that seems kinda steep to me. Do you guys know of anywhere else to pick them up for a little cheaper? Maybe Ebay? I looked but couldn't find anything. Thanks!

You aren't alone.

I've read numerous threads about this in the General Maintenance section over time. It's never happened to me, but then again my F-bodies never see bad weather.

You might try looking in the Classifieds section, maybe someone is parting out a car without front-end damage and will sell you the sockets for cheap.

ive had my right one do it to me.....you can use several different things to combat this

use rubbing alchol and that will break up the corrosion....

or use the light bulb anti-seize in the little packets and that will help keep the moisture out

yes di-electric grease helps combat the corrosion and all f-bodys will encounter this problem at some point in time

yeah, I plan on doing most of the preventative things once I get them replaced, but as for right now, they're beyond repair. I'm to the point where i need new ones. I'm just looking for them as cheap as possible. $130 is just flat out highway robbery and I really don't want to choke that one down.

I have this problem as one of my turn signal housings leaks bad.

I used WD40 and a toothbrush to clean it out, works well.

I would clean off the corrosion myself. There are several methods available; wire brush, wet-r-dry sandpaper, etc. After it is all cleaned and working correctly again, put a rust preventative coating on it, as suggested in posts above. These parts are not visible from the outside, all you need to do is insure a good electrical connection.
And I agree, the dealer is attempting to have intercourse with you without using vaseline.

a good preventive measure is to try to seal the light somehow....try to keep the moisture out
