Yes, I know, they suck. Anyways. We put a new pinion bearing in mine and now it whines/humms a small amount at 50-60 and 70-80. Not bad, but you can hear it. I have been told most 10-bolts have a little whine to them, even the stock ones.

PS. My torsen unit is alive and well, picked the car up tonight and I am a bit sad about the whine but everyone tells me even stock 10-bolts whine...reason for my poll.

Mine has a little whine to it.. from 55-68 miles and hour. Not that loud... only really noticable at past 60.

Now when i had my v6 camaro... that one moaned so loud I couldn't harld her the alpine stereo at max. Got tired of it and swapped it with one in a junkyard...

Moser 9" will be the replacement for the stock when it gives. (auburn LSD)

mine wined like hell.tore it down and every single bearing in it had to be replaced.however i had ordered the master overhaul kit
to do my gear swap.now its quiet as can be.most of the 10 bolts ive torn down look the same.i think gm got ahold of some junk bearings or somthin.

A little bit, but not bad at all so I don't complain. This isn't a reason to keep it though, haha. Only weird thing but probably not related, is I hear squeezes when I turn.

Mine is dead silent (on the '98).

The '00 made a tiny bit of noise.

the stock gears did a little. when i had 3.73s installed it was dead silent. after a couple passes it makes a slight whine thats barely noticeable at highway speeds.

They did.

I have seen some of these units with all six bearings pitted and axles grooved etc.. at 30k, while others have well over 100k and look/work great.

They went REAL cheap with the 7.625" 10-bolt.

I think 98 does a tiny amount, but it's very very hard to tell since it's one of those I need to shut off radio, ignore the engine sound, ignore the outside world kind of whines...

my 88 had a set of richmonds I installed and lasted for nearly 7 years and 100+ passes at the track during that time. It whined like a jet engine on take off. It finally went going downhill in stop/go traffic. It mearly chipped a few teeth, but the torsen posi was fine. So I installed another set of gears.

You mentioned it was the torsen heavy duty you had? Is it the one with both the ring gears AND clutch pack? I don't think that ever came stock during the LS1 years of the f-body.
