the steel tanks hold 15.2, the plastic tanks hold 16.8.

i've run my car way past the E mark and i have never put over 15 galons in it. the gas gauge is setup that way so dumb asses wont run out of gas lol.

This is correct.

The '98s have the old steel tank (same as the '97 and earlier), which is 15.2 gallons. The '99+ have the plastic tanks that hold 16.8 gallons.

Wow. Talk about running the tank low.

It's really not good to do that. The fuel pump is cooled by fuel in the tank, and it's not good for the pump to run the tank that low.

LOL! I thought you were saying that you've once filled it with 16.6 gallons. Because there is no 16.6 gallon tank. If your car is a '99, then you have a 16.8 gallon tank.

+1.....

Oddly enough,....its been a year since I was able to do that. Now I can only get 12.8 in there. Then again,.... I never let the fuel tank get too empty. Heard once that if you kept run'n a tank literally to the last ounce then you can screw up your fuel pump. Don't know if theres any truth to that but it's always good to never let the tank get that low anyways.

got stuck on the freeway between towns that were about 50 miles apart with no exits and I wasn't paying attention to the fuel gauge and ended up sputtering into the gas station just off the freeway I ended up putting in 16.3XX, this was on my previous 2000 V-6 camaro a few years ago

I've never put more than 14.4-14.5 in and that was after milking it as much as possible past E.
