Default Finding out my car's history/build #/ service???

Hello all,
Starting in on Project Z' I affectionately call it, I say affectionately because if im spending this much money I better be affectionate about it haha. Anyway I am unfortunately the second owner of this car and I bought it from a used car dealer right after some older fella traded it in. So I have ZERO service records/history/ etc.

2000 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 M6
Manufactured 03/2000
Org tires - 235/55/R16
Last 10 of VIN - G5Y2150944
Rearend RPO - GU6

Why does it say my original tires were 235/55/R16.. does this mean I have that 117mph speed limiter? I want to find out the service history of my car but don't know how to go about doing that. Pretty much the only thing I know about my car service wise was that I bought it with the P/S leaking and the #8 spark plug was probably NEVER changed which leads me to believe it was probably dealership maintained?? This was stone stock right down to the air filter and Skip shift haha.

The car has been sitting as I gather funds for the project and I just went to start it and the "security" light flashes..

I'm just hoping someone might be able to help me out with some more information about my car, MUCH appreciated if someone steps up to the plate.

Thanks,
MAtt

You can get the build date and service record here:
https://ls1tech.com/forums/removed-locked-thread-graveyard/679838-new-thread-build-dates-gm-claim-history.html

It's a sticky in the newbie section. I recently got mine from him. It took a bit, but he is doing this in his spare time...4 nothing!!

What is the highest number on your speedometer? 110mph or 150mph?

150 mph....and this is the weird thing.. ya see I was on the bypass one day and a GSXR750 blew by me giving me the thumbs up so I gave chase and before I even looked down at the speedo I hit the speed limiter I was in 4th though and I don't remember what my speedo said

... I've only ever done that once.. but plenty of 1-2-3-4 pulls hehe...

I'm lost.. I know it will hit 113 though as that is my trap speed lol I just don't like running that fast in my area...

on my door though it says 235/55/R16... but the car HAD 245/55/16 rims on it when I got it ( now has 315/35/17's) and it has the 150mph speedo

Well, to the best of my understanding, if you had the non-Z rated tires stock, you'd not only have the 117ish speed limiter, but you'd have the 110mph speedo as well. I know that's how it was in the LT1-era, not 100% sure on the LS1 non-Z rated cars though.

But you might have just had the wrong sticker on the door. My WS6 also had the 235/55/16 sticker on the door, and I knew it was wrong since I bought the car brand new with 275/40/17 tires on it. Upon closer inspection, I noticed that my SPID (RPO codes) and tire info stickers were both incorrect. The VIN number on that sticker was wrong; it didn't match my car's VIN. The VIN was for a V6 Firebird with the sport appearance package. Appearently they either put the wrong door or the wrong sticker on my car at the factory. The serial number portion of the VIN was just one digit off from mine, so the cars were right next to each other on the assmebly line.

So maybe you might want to check that sticker and see if the VIN number is correct for the car.

Good idea, I'll do that. Yeah it has the 150mph speedo. Well the VIN is correct on the door sticker, hmm... oh well. I'm not concerned about that really more about my service history and what not. I checked out that other thread and PM'd him..

I would just like to know what to expect before I drop the motor, fingers crossed for finding out that some dealership replaced the heads with newer 243 casting haha, or my hydraulics were already updated to 01+ hehe. It's really impossible for me to tell so far what is up with the internals of my car because it has 128,xxx on it and runs like a beast with only a P/S problem and the god damn fuel guage.

go to any Chevy dealership and they should be able to pull up your RPO options code from GM and anytime the previous owner serviced it at a GM dealership

It's pretty easy to check the head casting number. Just look at the driver's side head, the casting number is pretty easy to spot. With a 3/00 build date, you should have 853 castings.

Maybe you got lucky and the previous owner put some 243s on it at some point.

It was LT1 era..After that, all V-8 cars came with 150 speedos regardless of tires.
The good news is it's easily delt with.
Either with a Hypertech,Preadator,etc..Or LS1 edit.

The casting number is behind the EGR bracket on the passenger side head..Based on your description of how stock the car is..It has the same heads on it that it left St Therese with. Same with the clutch master.

cars that came with non-Z-rated tires had their top speed limited at around 113 mph i believe. if your car came with 235/xx/xxR, your car likely came with non-Z-rated tires. you'll still get the 150mph speedo, but the limiter will kick in at around 113 mph instead of 158-162 mph. it sucks i know, but you can always get it removed.

i have H-rated tires on my car now, but it didn't come that way from the factory. i've taken her up to 130 mph no problem. i haven't found a need to go any faster than that.
