Is 160,000 Miles Pushing It?
I'm tempted to go take a look at a 2001 Trans Am WS6. I haven't seen it yet, but it looks nice from the pics. The concern I have is that it's got 160000 miles on it. Should I be concerned? I know that's a hard question to answer because it depends on the shape of the car. The dealer say's it's all highway. What do yeah think? Here is the link..... http://www.trader.ca/powerpage/detai...1&adid=6040979

Where are you seeing mileage? I don't see it anywhere unless I'm missing it... says it's highway kms too so be sure to double check that mileage. I would say 160k is REALLY pushing it on the A4. I'm sure there are a few that have made it that far but not many.

I'm pretty sure that 160 is in kilometers. It says highway km's and the dealer is in Canada. I would bet that its km. In that case its more like 90k or so miles (I'm not exactly sure on that) and you would be ok.

My buddy bought one w/ 200k on the clock to put a 427 LS1 into and he thought it would be fun to blow up the 200k motor first - It would blow-up. He ended driving it all summer and pulling the motor and selling it because it would not die!
Now - there is no reason to buy one with those kind of miles unless you plan replacing motor anyways. You can easily dig one up with fewer miles.

The engine may be fine, that's probably the most durable part of these cars, or almost any car nowadays. High mileage cars cause problems because all the other parts aren't made to go that long and the money you save because of the high mileage you end up spending on stuff like tranny's, rear ends, water pumps, power steering pumps, windshield washer motors, alternators, starters, shocks, tie rods, wheel bearings, window motors, and what not.
Also, if it truly is highway miles it's probably had the front end repainted or it has a whole bunch of stone chips all over it. Then you'd want to know if it was painted by a quality shop.
Personally I try to keep my car off the highway as much as possible because I've seen what stones do to the front end of these cars. Usually I only hit the highway late at night or early Sunday morning when there's no traffic and all the work vehicles are parked for the day.

I wouldn't worry to much. I'm almost pushing 140k on my TA and the car was making over 390 to the wheels at one point. Also click this link

Even if you have to have the car shipped to you. There was a 2000 Z28 6-speed with under 100k for $6500 in the for sale section a few days back
