Hey guys. As the title says my mom got an ls1. It's a 99 tope/champagne trans am m6. my dad works at a pontiac dealer and someone traded it in on a gto. it needs a clutch and brakes all the way around. My dad also thinks the rear end is bad in it as well. My dad got it for 5500 i think. He sold my moms 71 firebird and is in the process of selling his all original 61 bonneville so he is going to use some of the proceeds from that to fix the trans am. My mom knew i was jealous so she told me I'd get it when she was done with it

stock rear ends are prone to nothing but problems. bad bearings and blowing apart ring gear teeth are the top 2 with posi's dieing another big one

this is where a mechanic can become your best friend. sounds like someone has been hot rodding it. it's time to rebuild the rear end man, no other way around it. with the brakes, i'd suggest spending the extra money and getting some nice rotors because if you have to stop quickly you dont want them to warp under heat. get good ceramic pads too. i've been fighting brake noise for a year now and i hate it!

I guess I lucked out with my rear, it has 151k on it and still quiet as a mouse. Although it did perform the one wheel wonder last time at the track....

not really (sorry mom)

well my dad has shown it at almost every car show there is and taken best in show, so he can't take it to anymore shows and compete. also he built a 61 ventura race car (built 455 w/dual quads, built th400) which is his main focus so the bonneville hasn't been driven much and he has lost interest in it. Also people have offered him 80,000 cash for it (they showed him the cash).
