Default rebuild or buy new

i was asking my buddy about what the pricing was on rebuilding an LS1 or just buying a new one, he said to rebuild with stock parts would most likely be around 3000 and to buy a new one its 3000 roughly and another grand or two and you got a LS2... is that price right for rebuild?

Well, that rebuild sounds high to me, but it probably all depends what he is replacing. I would go with a forged shortblock, they're north of $2500, and with a decent head/cam package for like $1200-$1700, you would basically have the whole shibang and have a nice all round car that could be beat on for some time.

That doesn't happen too often so I wouldn't count on that. The rebuild price does seem high but if you go the rebuild route you can change things a little bit (stroker etc...) where as with a new one you still could but you'd have to tear a perfectly good motor down.

Off a member from here from the 'for sale' section. My friend is buying a motor very similar to the one I got from someone on here for $1300.

Why do you say that? I see them go for that price all the time give or take a little.
