Default Great oil that is readily available at an auto parts store?

I know german castrol 0w30 is one of the best oils. I can't find it. I know ws6store has it. Its over 8 dollars a quart though.

What are some other good oils with good testing/anaylsis that are readily available at autoparts stores?

Pennzoil Platinum is a great oil..and can be found pretty much anywhere..Mobil 1 is another good choice. Really any of the name brand synthetics are pretty much the same..your not gonna have a problem with any of them. Just pick one and move on..

Your only real synthetics are Amsoil and Mobil 1. You can step up to Redline but it's very expensive. Mobil 1 is the easiest to find out of all those hands down.

I never bothered trying to get it cuz it was so hard to. I opted for the Mobil 1 for availability.

I've never heard so many people say Royal Purple is the best. Which makes me think they have a good marketing dept. So I respect that as an American--->free enterprise. But anyway, Castrol Syntec, Pennzoil, Royal Purple: Group 3 oils refined from petroleum basestocks. Mobil 1, Amsoil, German Castrol: Group 4 oils refined from natural gas. Redline: Group 5 refined from ester basestocks.

Valvoline or Mobil 1 are easily found, work great and aren't outrageously priced

A lot of people may disagree but many engine builders swear by the Rotela oil that is used for diesel engins. It has a lot of cleaning agents in the oil. I run it in my DD and car runs a lot smoother.

I thought Mobile 1 changed over to using base 3 stocks instead of 4. Hence why so many people on this board hate the oil now and have changed to other oils.

Well, Ive used mobil 1 for years and I dont really care what others say about it. The only thing I care about is the great results it has gave me over the years. Plus I'm not going out of my way to buy more expensive oil that is hard to find.

What?

I'm pretty sure there was a test done on BITOG about it and it turned out to be pretty good stuff.

There's nothing wrong with Wal-Mart oil, non-sythetic anyway. It's the same quality as other non-synthetic oils. I don't know if I would personally trust it for my own car but it may be just as good.

Second that. I won't go on about anything technical. You can look that up on BITOG. It's come back w/ some really good uoa's. I was running M1 until I found this stuff. M1 used to dissappear at the rate of 1qt every 1500 miles in my car. No leaks, not burning, just dissappearing. I'm over 2200 mi. on this SuperTech (walmart) and I haven't lost a drop.
Probably not as good a RP, Amsoil, or Redline, but for 2.98/qt. and many proven oil analysises I'm not gonna complain!

Yeah it's good stuff. I'd use it more but my VW calls for a special spec and I don't drive the Z much. If I had an American gasser for a DD, you better believe I'd use the Wal-Mart synthetic. I used it in my pickup til I sold it.
