I don't think the tranny swap is worth the money IMO. I have an a4 and have been considering a stall, but after driving manual cars so much recently, I'm considering selling mine for one. It all comes down to what you really want and like. If you've always wanted a manual like I have, don't settle for less and just get one already. Search it up like the previous posters said, the topic comes up pretty often. Basically it all comes down to you and your preferences.

The short answer....Search
The longer answer... You'll end up spending more $$ on parts and hours of labor (if you do it yourself, tons of time and swearing..). Then you have a swapped car and thats not gonna be as rock solid as a car you can just go out and buy. If you have the $$ for a swap, you'll prolly just be better off finding a nice condition car already M6 equipped.

I just got done with mine about 2 months ago. I def. did NOT spend 5-6 k. The whole swap cost me right at 2 grand and was well worth it. I still have all the automatic **** lying around, and you can always sell it and get some money back. It's twice as fun to drive now, you wont regret it.

Unless someone has a ton of mod money already tied up in their car, or just has a real emotional attachment... my advice would be to sell the auto equipped car and find one with an M6.
So many people have done the swap by now that the community has it "down to a science" and you can find writeups on all the ins and outs. However, I'm kinda lazy and hate the type of hassles it could involve, so I'd prefer to just buy a car that came from the factory with the tranny I want.
I had a daily M6 for fun to and from work and a track car with a built to the hilt A4.

It's easier and cheaper to just sell the A4 and buy a M6... on the other hand , complete engine trans combos (incl. computer, accessories and so on) are 4-5K... sometimes less with high milage....
If it's your daily driver, keep the A4
