Question Build Sheets: F Bodys have them? Anyone found 1?

I often see where they find the car's build sheet on older generation cars, which leads me to ask: did our generation f bodys have build sheets and if so, where do they stash them?

That's the RPO Decal you're referring to my friend. He's talking about the more detailed papers that were often stuffed underneath the seats of the early f-bodies at the assembly plant.

look in the special vehicles section, there is a guy there that can get you your build #. Thats where I got mine, but I don't have any papers that say it though.

Hope it helps some

I know my build number (note my screename) but on older camaros and firebirds, when the cars went down the assembly line they had a computer spit out sheet with all of the cars options, on the older camaros/firebirds they were under the rear seat springs...but I have not heard of an fbody with this?

Take a peak at an early example...:

My salesman saved me all the paperwork when I picked up my Car new. Including the manifest/build sheet and the window sticker that was never put in the car. But I've never heard of anyone finding it in one of these cars.

I worked at GM for ~11 years starting in the mid 90's. The build sheets were not put in the cars we built, AFAIK. I can remember them being taped to the cars as they entered the Trim Dept., but I do not know what happened to the build sheets after that. I have never seen them in a vehicle on a dealer lot. They obviously get tossed prior to that. In fact, I do not even remember seeing them prior to being shipped off to Final Assembly.

If you remember anything about the location you found it in, please post that info; i.e. out in the open or tucked behind a trim panel. Thanks.

Bought my '02 ss in fall of '03 brand new. With the car came the build sheet from Chevrolet/GM and a separate sheet from SLP listing all of the mods. Also the RPO decal on the passenger door listing SLP mods. I've never heard of anyone "finding" their sheet in these cars, and all of the build sheets I've seen were supplied by the dealer to the owner when they purchased there cars new. I have heard a couple of stories of guys trying to get a replacement build sheet from Chevrolet/GM but with no success. Had something to do with the shut down of the plant in Quebec and moving all of that info, etc. to Detroit?????? Best I can do for ya.
